Silly question, everyone learns at different pace, just getting learning and making tracks.

Personally, I think that before you go about starting your own tunes, get to know your DAW and any synths or effects you want to be using.
I think the best way of doing this is by re-creating/mixing already existing tracks, also, I wouldn't suggest diving straight into the heavy transformer step stuff if that's what you're into. It'll take way more experience to get a slight grasp of what teh fook is going on with those basslines! Start off with some simpler/minimalistic stuff. I for one started with something simpler like hip-hop. Wasn't very good though, but after a year, I heard dubstep and felt I knew enough about what I was working with to get working on it.
