Anyone can download your tunes from soundcloud!

So how do they get around the download counter? I have set tunes to download for a short period of time and taken it back off and the counter stays up.

Can I just say.....Unless you know your way around sourcecode I very much doubt you'll be able to work this out very easily.. Its not THAT bad security but its possible...Just like it used to be possible to download off youtube with notepad and knowing what code to edit..

Eh, it doesn't matter how hard it is, somebody will release a tool to make it easy for the masses.

And it's not like it's difficult to secure this, so I'm still calling it a Soundcloud fail. (Again assuming it's true, and it's not the transcoded version)

Yeah honestly I need to know how to do this for real before I bitch. How do I know it's a fail or not? You would think you would see everyones bits up around the net if this were true? I only find Savory files after they have been released.

I can't see any way to get the 320 out of it tbh, but my knowledge of html isn't that good so maybe it's hidden in one of the bits that has too much mess for me to bother looking at? Still, I doubt you can.

Yeah it's a pre-coded version of the 128 that they keep linked to the player for streaming. I think the 320 would only be accessible if it was already available for free download.

i had to get a friend to download some of my files once when my computer was down and they showed up in my stats as downloads. so surely if someone is ripping your songs, it will at least show up in downloads, and probably (if you have a pay account) show you exactly who did it. should be pretty easy to bust people, and i suppose soundcloud should be alerted (like they don't already know).

There is no download counter.

Except there is. When you enable downloads anyway. Soundcloud keeps track because it's part of your plan how many you get per upload. I don't know, can anyone confirm or deny this? It's looks pretty doubtful to me that anyone can grab the original tbh.

I think it only shows who downloaded your shit when they also have an soundcloud account AND are logged in when downloading. Otherwise you won't see anything

Youtube changes their algorithmic almost daily to prevent 3rd party addons in browsers from downloading the content. I don't see SC do that. Or would I want them to (costs a lot of money, something that could be better spent, since it's a losing battle anyhow).

Hopefully, but sites like Youtube do extensive work on it day by day.
(Everyone uses third party apps on their browser which the sites can block)
About time SC started on it maybe, or we'll just have to start adding "Example" clips and hiding everything else.

i use a program instead of the browser add on. could just put on like 1 min clips of ur finished songs i mean who would really want that with a vocal insertion.

You're never gonna be able to stop it. Replay Music - records anything that comes through your sound card and will split up songs when it detects silence between them.

Dang. I'd kinda like to know how it's done so I can bitch to soundcloud about it. I pay for it for fucks sake, that's unacceptable. Not even sure it should have been brought up here either. Probably some punks trying to work it out after reading this but I'm glad I know.
