That'd be the reason i get molded but i'll definitely try a cheap pair first. I'm extremely fussy with in-ear headphones as well so i assume unmolded may irritate me at first. Worth a try see how i get on though, i don't fancy paying out a shit load for molded if i get on with a cheap pair fine.joeki wrote:C) you can't bear standard earplugs in your ears: the sensation is annoying and it takes the fun out of a night.
Otherwise, look chemical, they have excellent ones for 15-20 quid.

Re: Earplugs
Those crappy foam ones are excellent for preventing hearing damage, that's why they use
em in factories/around heavy machinery. They will mess up your ear's frequency response when you're
wearing them but whatever. At really big venues that might be annoying..

Re: Earplugs
I always just use foam ones, but never go to a show without a pair. It's pretty standard for them to be handed out for free at shows where I'm from. (California/ Oregon)

Re: Earplugs
Big venues over here have them too, but there's still a "not cool" attitude towards it I suppose, that or they don't have enough. Again, foam ones are fine but you are going to lose some of the music with them.
I just think it is crazy to spend 150-170€ on customised plugs (moulded and tuned) if you don't really need them (again there are people that need them).
Basically, bes spend 20 quid first to see how models like these ones I have work, than just spending so much money on pro stuff. Chemical has roughly the same ones from a different brand.

Re: Earplugs
I'll probably invest in some nicer ones so as to not compromise the sound. I'm sure some of my friends might give me shit for having the ones with the wire, but we'll so who's laughing when their deaf later. I am curious as to how dj's could use earplugs and mix. I know Youngsta said in his DSF Q&A that his custom plugs were essential, but wondering if he uses them while mixing, or just to be easy on the ears watching other's sets.

Re: Earplugs
I know plenty of DJ's that mix with earplugs, but as I said, you probably need custom moulded ones, as they fit within your pinna and auditory canal, thus not obstructing the headphones. Which isn't the case with mine for example (as I said on the previous page).
Re: Earplugs
yeah man my parge gets them from work, block out all sound (to an extent)... so handy for when you have portly bredrins sleeping round who snore likeAxeD wrote:Those crappy foam ones are excellent for preventing hearing damage, that's why they use em in factories/around heavy machinery.

Re: Earplugs
Foolish if you don't project your ears. I tend to just use cheap/free ones for parties like.
Forgot mine at System though...my ears were ringing for days.

Re: Earplugs
I use cotton.
It cuts a lot of the higher freq's, but as the system in our local club is really high on midrange, it's cool, actually the music sounds a bit more weighty
Deffo need to invest in some plugs when i have money

HA, I do often think 'I am really enjoying myself tonight but it's just a little bit toooo loud'.garethom wrote:Maybe raves should just turn the speakers down a bit?
Nah, seriously though I started wearing ear plugs about 5 years ago, which was about 6 years too late. Strongly recommend plugs to anyone regularly hitting up club nights and the like.
Re: Earplugs
Actually the audio level is a tad low at nights around here often. Somehow you can't really get into it when this
is the case.
When there's a rave in a building that isn't designed for it you've got to watch your ears. Usually they'll just stack a bunch
of sets to fill the place with sound, which obviously leads to a very high level in the front.

Sometime, it's not that the soundsystem might not compare. The problem is that sometimes, a shitty soundsystem is turned up higher than it should be and starts pumping out things it should never pump out. Or it gets compensated by adding more stacks. That'll just kill your ears.Cornbreadddd wrote:Damn I've never really thought about this. I'm going to my first gig very shortly (Distance). I'm wondering if things are different here in the US, I mean, DMZ and nights like that are famoous so of course the sound system is going to be ridiculous. But I have a feeling the place here in the US where the gig is, isn't even going to compare soundsystem wise, to whats in the UK.
Basic earplugs are inexpensive. It's more worthwhile than having ringing in your ears for days and increasing the risk of tinnitus. After all, the price of cheap earplugs is what? The price of a ticket or 1-2 drinks. Not much at all when you think about it.
