Yea, this place sucks.

As for the OP, really, the first thing you need to do is learn your program. Even if you are the greatest producer in the world, if you don't know how to use your tools you won't be able to make anything. Choose your program, then hit the internet. There's a ton of tutorials all over the place for pretty much any program you choose to use.

Ignore this. The list of producers that use and release tracks with FL doesant need repeating. Whichever DAW you use will be more than capable enough to make quality tracks.

You guys are in high school? I'm thinking of volunteering to teach a class on computer music production afterschool at my old high school, you think students would be interested?

:)

as for OP : dont want to sound like dissin or anything : just comin thru honest and ish : at the level u seem to be at... any beatmaker / producer would do... dubstep or trance

- for instance : what i mean is stuff like LFO has close to nothing to do with dubstep and any educated electronic music producer would be able to school u properly on such matters...

- dubstep is a young genre, it still draws its inspirations from many genres... in fact.. all genres... most of the producers u love did not learn dubstep alongside dubstep producers...

- considering what ive just drawn.. ud win a lot hanging around with producers of different genres... take what they have to teach u and incorporate it to ur music...

hell, at ur level, i wouldnt even bother meeting other people... this is 2011... id spend weeks locked in my b.o.-reeking basement watching tutorials on youtube, punctuated by a shitload of porn and sugary goods... just learnin bout life...

those times for me were the best...

I hate seeing these threads, I really do. No one needs a teacher, or their own personal thread to get started producing!

What do you do when you want to learn or research anything else? You simply search it. No one's going to give you any type of advice that'll help you significantly when you're not even willing to search for knowledge yourself.

Yeah but on the other hand it can be pretty daunting if you literally have no idea. If someone had told me to read up on ocs, filters, envelopes, LFOs, waveforms etc I would have got my head around it a bit quicker. Its not like guys sayin ' OMFGZ GUYZ HOWZ UZ MAKE DAT SIK AZZ DATSIKZ DUBASSZZ NOISEZZ FINGZZ CUZ I GOTZ MASSIVEZZ CRACKZZ BUT THEREZ NO PRESETZ ???

Fact: One can not make dubstep without the presets

- No one mentioned Computer Music I read this to start with and it really helped. Tips and tricks, latest news and reviews on software you may think about getting.

And altho im self taught ive found it very benefitical to work with someone else, silly things like "You can hold ctrl to copy rather then going edit copy paste" .

Good luck, have fun. Dont take yourself seriously making music is fun. It wont sound like a released record for a long time so dont get disheartend.

p.s IM THE ONLY ONE ON MSN?!? Really :( no wonder no ones ever online anymore

you should check out this...it's mad old...but who the fuck cares!

Rusko & Caspa both have alot of reggae influence, and thats what I'm into. Mad people on DSF hate on them, but I honestly find them both absolutely fantastic. Although they havent been doing much this year, I still think they are gonna come back to blow everyone away with a Fabriclive 37 Vol.2...fingers crossed.

But to seriously answer your question, BUY Fruity Loops. Then sit on Fruity Loops, read the manual and mess with it until you actually start figuring things out.

Most people will tell you FL Studio sucks for dubstep...but believe me...no matter how much it sucks it's still the best DAW to begin with, because you will get into Reason, Ableton, or ProTools and be like :u: trying to figure things out.

It's like riding a bike...you cant ride a motorcycle without starting with a tricycle.
Ignore everything in this guys post cos it's complete bullshit.

Are you for real?!? Nobody here hates the old school '06 era caspa&rusko dubby dubstep sub powered goodness! The reason you see hate on them now is because all they make these days is pop filtered brostep with brutal electro or teenage girls wailing.

ahahahahahahhaha that was just so funny. cosign.

dunno if ur just starting with this music ish.. but if yes... just breathe, and enjoy what u do on a daily basis, what u learn, what u discover...

generally speaking ... people off forums who tend to give u very concrete and very narrow ''advice'' have a lot more chances of being bloated then people who give u guidelines...

ive learned it the hard way... and had to relearn a lot of things (with guitars, djing, producing.. etc)... it can be daunting at first but just surf on the forum, take a couple days, read a little, watch a couple videos... from there u could ask more precise questions... google is your friend (add Dubstepforum to your searches, might make it easy)...

and then take the time to ask yourself if the things u are doing come to u naturally...

it will be scary and ull prolly feel very lost in the beginning, but it should still be ''natural''.. if that makes any sense..

take ur time and dont believe alarmist and extreme people so fast.. even tho they make more noise...

i know ur eager to learn... dont worry.... it means ull have loads of fun in the future... just take ur time to learn in a healthy fashion

btw if ur on aim... im more then open to share about music with u... (pm me... i just started that aim ish today.. i love it)
