i cant repeat it enough,

my most valuable leap musicwise was actually stepping into a studio and recording my own drum sounds...

second biggest was spending years chopping sounds off records...

sounds from packs are good... but... understand its ur responsability to gather ur sounds...

I've been stuck with Redrum for my entire producing history. I think I need to try kong soon.

oh its fucking amazing. you can completely shape your drum sounds from scratch and then add all the effects right in kong. i then route kong to 2 redrums and sequence a simple pattern like that and then throw in some other kicks, and hats in the sequencer. works great.

Most one drums sound pretty flat until you have applied Eq, Compression, Multiband dynamics etc, I use Ableton and the drums within Ableton are as good as any, just what you do with them mate!

OK on that topic again, what kick do you go with? I know plenty work, but outta the drum rack, what kick do you usually go with for eqing and all that jazz? I'm getting tired of Redrum.

I dont like using midi for doing drums so i just drag and drop the audio hits into the arrangement and built them up from there
I do this too, find it much simpler when layering beats. Can't be arsed with drum machines on my beats, I feel like I have much more control over them when they're WAVs in a sequencer, in seperate tracks. I can group em if I wanna save space :4:

If you don't like midi, go record live drum samples instead, splice and what not.
Or else don't dispute over a method that clearly works well.

This mean I get to lopp your head off as a trophy now? :6:
yeah cus i am trolling
now why would i go to all the time and effort to record drums when theyres people out there who do that and make them into packs?
I can dispute what i please when someone says its the best way of doing it when its clearly not the best way for everyone

contakt knows about my drums 8)
I love drum racks and have always used them in ableton but i also want to big up dza and contakt's method. I try to use a bit of both, i use drum racks for my main kicks and snares/claps or whatever, then i use audio tracks for hihats/incidentals/percussion. It works well because you can snip edit and reverse the audio in the tracks. You can also do velocity changes by varying the individual clip volumes :D
