fm or pm synths will do
freebies:
3-OSC VA by angular momentum is capable of sounding like subtraktor when using "fm" with all three oscillators
also zynaddsubfx (which i use all the time) but it might take you months to get around this gigantic synth comfortably though.
il b doing a video tutorial on a much easier synth

Anyone have insight as to what kind of FX chains these dons are throwing on their bass? Shaping the initial sound is the easy part... filter envelopes are easily the most important part for shaping, but after that I'm stumped. Honestly, any amount of Scream 4 that I throw on just turns the sound to absolute shite. It's like i've hit a brick wall with distortion in Reason and everything starts to sound the same.
I have, however, discovered how useful the CV pots on the back of Scream 4 are for creating sloppy wobs. Try setting scream to warp, bring down the body scale to 0-20 range, crank the resonance up, and put the auto filter around 2 or three o'clock. Then take your filter envelope CV and connect it to the scale CV on the back of scream for some wonky results. MAKE SURE ITS SCREAM BODY B... those requake guys love scream body B
anyone have recommendations for FX chains?
also I knows that phasers can play a huge role in breathing life into great bass patches, but I can't figure out how to use it properly. It just sounds super cheesy to me, how do yall use phasers on bass patches?

id say use a phaser early in your chain and have the distortion a bit more towards the end
also dont rely on the built lfo of the phaser, automate the frequency yourself with the lfo off/unused
use flangers in the same way.

its all about using The Duckorgan wave form and putting alot of wet 'sample and hold' on it. I use FL studio, it helps the bass sound nice if you put some 'Convoler' on it. Makes it nice and echoey, Use a low pass filter with the LFO on the cut off but at about 10 oclock. U can also join it up with a comb filter. Bit crush it/lower its quality to give it a nice crunch. With the drum pattern you need it to be nice and bouncy, so put a kick right befor the snare, and try to use more real sounding drums as apose to dance/techno drums

if this has helped you or you like my tracks then it would mean a lot if you follow me on sound cloud
