I'll usually use audio but for more complex beats I'll chop a break up in kong and trigger it with redrum.

I design, mix, and layout all my percussion in midi and once I'm happy with it I'll bounce it to audio. Saves a lot of CPU for me. I use midi more to just lay out what I'm after and then bounce it to audio for sequencing, more control over the final sounds and all that.

Also,the zoom and cut mechanic is about 1000x's easier in kong. Imo

In use audio cause I like to see where the transients, oscillations etc are to layer things tightly in phase. I make tunes with some other people and they prefer to keep things 'lose', each to their own I guess.

usually you can get more nuanaces with audio than a sampler (and can use one offs easier sample wise)
