I grew up producing idm so have had a little experience making this paper-being-screwed-up percussion. Don't underestimate the versatility of the granuliser and the crappy legacy sampler reverbs. I typically just get baked and load various tom and kick samples into this and twist knobs randomly (the randomiser is great too) and quite often end up with pretty interesting little several-hit percussion patches that are great layered behind a typical bass drum or whatever.
