true how could I forget that.terrible1fi wrote:you're forgetting the pitch modulationHypefiend wrote:most 808s are synthesized or get a tr 808 sample pack. there are loads for free on the web. and 808s are almost pure lower frequencies, so if you would want to synthesize one it would be pretty simple with just a sine pull the release up half way and boom you got a boomin kick. play at a certain octave that has the sound stand out the most then bounce it!

Re: 808 Kicks? (My question of the day)
It may sound like a stupid question but the 808s used in hip hop often sound better than the ones you can download in packs. I have the goldboy ones and as many other packs of Roland drums I can find and I still struggle to get them sounding as hot as they did in hip hop.
Then when you listen to what Loefah does with 808s I get all confused. Layering, distorting, compression, clever EQing and then automation as far as I know.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Have you tried setting up a template just for kick processing?
- 6 sampler channels - 2 for sub, 2 for meat, 2 for character
- Out into the mixer channels 6 into 3 into 1.
- Edison etc.

6 808 samples on the go at once? Or are you on about splitting the freqs?wub wrote:serox wrote:It may sound like a stupid question but the 808s used in hip hop often sound better than the ones you can download in packs. Out into the mixer channels 6 into 3 into 1? On about bussing them till I have one sound? I think so, but I am sure there are other ways of doing it and those ways might be where I am going wrong. Different processing, different plugins could also make a different. I am sick of going thru different VST FX plugins!

I feel like I have tried everything, know what I mean? Been at this years now and still cannot get a decent bass noise hehe.

6 samples on the go at once, though you could freq split to get the same resultserox wrote:6 808 samples on the go at once? Re: 808 Kicks? (My question of the day)
Never tried with 6 at once tbh. I have tried 3 or 4 and it just gets messy and sounds terrible. I would be interested in the processing chain involved with ur idea tho.wub wrote:

Where does Edison come into it? I use it now n then to make small changes to samples but that’s it!

To record what you're doing at all times in case you find the sweet spot whilst jamming. Edison is standard on all my templates.

U dont have it recording always do you?!wub wrote:serox wrote:

When do you find the sweet spot, doing what? I never find the any sweet spots haha. Actually, I did find a noise that sounded sweet on one key recently lol.

Pretty much anything that involves making sound, yeah.serox wrote:U dont have it recording always do you?!wub wrote:serox wrote:

Doing anything. I'll often record the same 8 bar loop over and over if I'm playing around with effects parameters/automation/layering etc, or if I've got a roughly finished pattern with ALL the elements that might go into the final tune then I'll run through it a few times and turn the various channels on/off to see how the progression in the tune works, instead of arseing around with the playlist.serox wrote:When do you find the sweet spot, doing what? Record > Save > Bounce. If I listen back and they're shit, I'll laugh and delete them.

Something I need to do more often. I never do this but I have seen others doing it and thought, yeh good idea!wub wrote:
