Talk about atmosphere. The singer in this particular track has claustrophobia and they put him in a cascet while recording the track.

Sunn O))) actually has some amazing shit. Listen to Alice (off monoliths and dimensions) and tell me that they're just hitting chords. That song has real movement to it. Really, they're a very interesting band. If nothing else, I learned patience listening to them. Our perception of time is just that. Perception. It's made to be listened to loudly, too. I'll listen to Sunn O))) on loud volume, and if I throw something else on at the same volumes it kills my ears and they'll be ringing for a good portion of the day. I'm glad to hear that someone is genuinely interested! I hope you enjoy exploring, as discovering Sunn O))) opened up a whole world of new music to explore for me.

Hmm, I can enjoy their music without drugs but when I was introduced to it I was really into psychedelics, so that likely helped me take note of and appreciate the intricacies of their sound more.

I could definitely see why people might think it's just a bunch of noise, though, but personally, I think they're brilliant.

They're alright but not really my thing. I like my noise to be more like Mogwai.

I have never fully got into Sunn, but their record with Boris is one of my favorites. Also I second the recommendation of Sleep - Dopesmoker, although my girlfriend asked my why I don't just listen to the vacuum cleaner for an hour.

Yeah she is slowly distinguishing the difference.

PS I am surprised at how many people on here are into stoner / doom / drone

this. feels like a religious experience live. my whole body was shaking the whole time, and this whole ceremony thing just makes things even stronger. i must admit i'm quickly bored by their music when listening at home, but live they're one of the best bands i've ever seen.

I'm not a fan on metal, but I quite like ambient stuff. I noticed that these guys are playing in Amsterdam next week and I heard that the live show is really an experience. I don't really have any mates who like this stuff so noone I know is going.

Should I go to the show ?

How much are you doing Dronevil for? One of the proudest things I own is the Japanese release of Boris - Smile, it's a beautiful Vinyl.

Alice and Decay2 are my favourite Sunn songs.

It's a bit hard trying to define why they appeal, to be honest.
