Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
For me, its all about it all coming together in the end and tie-ing the bits together.
the sum of the parts to make a whole, is a saying i always return to.

Yeah, when all the different things come togheter to one, feels like pure magic.

best part for me is when i open fl studio, think 'yeahh i might just try this see what it sounds like' and then 6 hours have passed and that little idea is quickly turning into a track
worst part for me is when i open fl studio, think 'yeahh i might just try this see what it sounds like' and then 6 hours have passed and im so frustrated that nothing sounds remotely decent and im seconds away from smashing my room up

both happen to me quite often, which is both awesome and incredibly frustrating at the same timesnick01 wrote:best part for me is when i open fl studio, think 'yeahh i might just try this see what it sounds like' and then 6 hours have passed and that little idea is quickly turning into a track

but there's a lot of things that are my favorites. one of my favorites is after all the time I spend in a track, listening to it all when it's done. I've been making music for about 2 years now, but only just recently really got the grasp of structuring the track properly so, with my latest track I'm going to be releasing it's a big deal for me. my favorite thing to do in the song though is making a groove. getting drums and melodies/basses that get people moving is a great feeling.
sometimes when I listen to my tracks too, I'll just think like "holy shit... I made everything in this song!" it's a pretty surreal feeling lol

drums, drums, drums. i love everything about making drums! since i've got the hang of compressors, eq'ing and other nice things you can do to samples it's really been a blast.
i also love sampling, synths are fun yes but nothing beats turning a sample into an instrument of it's own.
oh, and making weird-ass fx, though i haven't done that in a while.
things that i absolutely hate are basslines (as in dnb/dubstep, no matter if dungeon, neuro or plain chainsaw noises) i'm actually at the point where i decided it's best not to do them anymore because it gets me into a state of mind where i can't open my DAW for days without being totally pissed off.

Gearlust.
I love KVRaudio news update heralding the arrival of new plaugins, and spending time judging their feature set and GUI against existing plugins.

Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
1. spending hours working on one preset then thinking to myself "What the f@#& did I just make?"
2. Getting my drums to sound perfect.

Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
How many of you have 'tried' showing a friend how you come about producing a track? But after listning to the same bassline/drum beat 50+ times he/she usually just shifts their full attention the the TV and you're left alone in your studio once again. I usually try and converse atleast once per hour in these situations.
Maybe il stop trying to do this, it never seems to work.
ONTOPIC: I love messing around with an EQ and then pulling cool sounds out of the bigger noise im EQing. That and i've grown quite fond of using Vocoders on non-vocal tracks. I was really suprised what can come out of one of these if you actually know how to work it.
Also, showing you're friends/fellow DSF members a new track. Whether it blows and i get tons of constructive fb, or people love it something good always comes out of it.

Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
Gotta be placing the drums and creating the groove to it, I can get very quickly bored after that
Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
There's really too many things to narrow it done to just one
One of my favorite things is definitely that I feeling I get when I make something that sounds cool.

That's a really good thing to enjoy, because it means you get to complete many tracks, the oppositie to many of us.Depone wrote:For me, its all about it all coming together in the end and tie-ing the bits together.

Obsessive completer finisher then?!

Re: Whats your favorite part about producing
When I get a melody or bassline I really feel and then create a patch which sound perfect for it.
That or browsing through my earliest tracks and laughing at them. I do that when I need motivation as well. To see how much I've personally improved in 6 months keeps me driven to want to feel the same way in 6 more months when I look back again.

Trying to get on MTV is like trying to be employee of the month at McDonald's.

dude it's ridiculous. so many times have some of my friends will be like, "I wanna see how you make these songs." and then when I start showing them a track I'm working on and how I make my drums/synths/basses etc they stop paying attention like 10 into me expaining it. it just baffles meRedderious wrote:How many of you have 'tried' showing a friend how you come about producing a track?
