Top 5 albums 2011
Re: Top 5 albums 2011
What's the point of having a top 5 albums of 2011 when 2011 hasn't even finished yet! Too many albums still on their way.
Re: Top 5 albums 2011
It was a so far thread given there was a top 5 singles doing the rounds at the same time

Re: Top 5 albums 2011
I'll give ya a top 10 :
10 : Zomby - Dedication
09 : Jesu - Ascension
08 : Jamie Woon - Mirrorwriting
07 : Iroha - Iroha
06 : Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
05 : Sully - Carrier
04 : DeepChord - Hash-bar Loops
03 : Cosmin TRG - Simulat
02 : Machindrum - Room(s)
01 : Emptyset - Demiurge
Further good efforts include : Clueless, Deadverse Massive, Gator Bair Ten, James Blake, Kode9 & The Spaceape, LV & Joshua Idehen, Mika Vainio & Roly Porter.
Was slightly disappointed with : Emalkay, Falty_DL, Fennesz & Martyn.
Still some very good shit to come though (new Tim Hecker, King Midas Sound,....)

For me, in no particular order:
Sully - Carrier
Rustie - Glass Swords (listened to the previews, this one is gonna be massive!)
LV & Josh Idehen - Routes
Swarms - Old Raves End
Black Box - Transmissions Vol. 1 (I'm counting it)

Re: Top 5 albums 2011
So much great music that I'm struggling with 5.
Sully Carrier is definitely on my list, I expect Joker to make it as well though idk whether the instrumentals or the vocals, I'm not listening till it drops. I also think the Four Tet fabric is a brilliant record and I'm looking forward to the Author album if it drops and massive expectations for Shackleton and Pinch colab.

Re: Top 5 albums 2011
Can't narrow it down below a top 10:
1. The Weeknd - House of Balloons
2. Saigon - The Greatest Story Never Told
3. Phaeleh - The Cold In You
4. Pharoahe Monch - We Are Renegades
5. Kromestar - Colourful Vibrations
6. Phonte - Charity Starts At Home
7. Big KRIT - ReturnOf4Eva
8. The Weeknd - Thursday
9. Curren$y & Alchemist - Covert Coup
10. Joker - The Vision
Honourable mentions go to Tes La Rok - Them, Katy B - On A Mission, J. Cole - The Sideline Story, Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra and Apollo Brown - Clouds. Plenty of others I've enjoyed, and I haven't even checked out Silkie yet
Whoever says there's no more good music these days needs their head checked...

Re: Top 5 albums 2011
What a fucking year for music
Author - Author
Pinch & Shackleton - S/T
Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
Martyn Ghost People
2562 Fever
currently, this could change and excluding stuff from a top 10 is going to be as tough as excluding stuff from a top 5.
I think we're used to music being almost disposable because of the cost and the ease with which we can buy it. It doesn't really matter how often you listen to something when the cost is a couple of pints and it's going to take at least that long to listen to first listen. There's a ton of music I've bought that is doubtful as to whether I'll listen to it 10 times. There's a ton of music not on my top 5 that I'll be listening to for years.
It's an incredible time for music.
