They certainly didn't hit up Mala to find out why the subtle elements in his tunes work so well together.

Or could it be that Mala decided not to do the album because he didn't like the deal.

It seems they have a lot of younger artists on the Album. Artists that need the exposure, and don't care if they get a sub par deal out of it.

I'm not saying Korn is giving sub par deals, but it is all business these days and it might not be up to Mala's standards.

Skrillex fits perfectly in this album, and I love that he did it.

Ever listen to My Chemical Romance? Yea, most of their albums are not my style, since I come from a metal background, but their songs are great by music theory standards. Have you heard the album "The Black Parade" by them?



That song kicks ass, doesn't sound anything like you would expect from them, and it's all because they started working with Rob Cavallo. He did their next album as well, and I hear it's pretty awesome.

You never know what's going to happen when two artists come together to make something different.

Megadeth did this with Risk, and Dann Huff, who was a country producer, and I love that album.

Better yet, their best album was when Marty Friedman joined and Mustain was off Alcohol. I'm sure everyone said the album was going to be stupid when he hired someone from an underground band and had just quit drinking.

Wait for the whole album to come out, listen to it a few times (or don't) and then if you think it's stupid, give your opinion. It's just ignorant to cast an opinion based off one song.

Not really, that song + the list of collaborative artists lets me know that its an over the hill rock band's attempt to jump on the brostep bandwagon. If that isn't obvious to you then you really don't know that much about Dubstep.

I studied theory for a compositional degree on Piano. A lot of what I learned, and most of it not even from my teachers, is what chord progressions give what feel to certain pop/rock/metal/electronic music songs.

What are you studying theory for? Just curious as one musician studying music to another.

Yes, I am saying that MCR is theoretically a good band. I'm also saying they are talented musicians and probably a lot smarter than a good amount of people on this board, including me. They have experience, talent, knowledge, and room to play around with new ideas. Korn is the same way.

What I'm trying to say here is, don't judge and album before you've heard it. You might end up liking it and having to eat your own words. I don't care how cool you are, you can't play off eating your own words. I've ate my own words plenty of time, and you know what? Words taste terrible, like a bad bag of mushrooms.

Myself, i just studied theory on my own, it isnt "for" anything. it makes perfect sense to me so i like it. Took it in high school and easily got perfect scores. Studied business in college, but took jazz theory and jazz improv on guitar for electives because the faculty at my school was so good. Just great education, playing, insight, fun. nowadays i don't exactly study but i appreciate it. i play jazz charts and explore new ways to solo them. you know, the type of shit guitar players just sort of do. jam with friends, sit in on gigs and recording sessions. That's all.

n i got mad respect for any act that has made a name for itself on a scene. It's hard fuckin work, as i've been finding out. I still believe though, that in music scenes vibes almost always trump theoretical content. even in jazz.

I get what you are saying completely. What I'm saying is once you go further down the rabbit hole, you start to find out that all of those vibes have a formula. You can actually make someone feel a certain way if you know how to apply your theory knowledge to your tracks!

It's really a full time job trying to get your name out there. I think it stays a full time job until you have enough money to pay a manager, or you get a label who provides a GOOD manager for you (Most don't).

A lot of people decide to make tunes without having any conscious artistic urge.... and i guess thats what it boils down to for me.. Fair enough if you haven't got a clue about keys, voicings, ii V's, etc. but if you don't have the vision to create a particular composition, and you're just slapping together sounds... why should it be taken seriously

Because as much as we don't want to, you have to look at the broad picture. The world needs those bands who just slap things together, or else the lot of the buggers would be bored and never listen to music. They're a necessary evil if you want to put it that way.
