Ive made bits and bops, getting more into it lately from listening to loads more Border Community stuff. House really does teach you a lot about structure and flow. I'll post some bits up soon.

I have a few finished house tracks that are of a standard where I can play them out when I do tech house sets in south London and not have people leave the dancefloor. One has a sample of Patrick Stewart talking about going to do cocaine

Idea for you. Bus all the individual parts as stems and then just play with the volumes "mixing" all of the pieces together with panning and volume automation. Maybe even some effect automation too! Maybe you'll find a new sound for the song, Who knows!

Unfinished tracks to me are just gold-mines for trying new techniques to try to make something interesting. If I fail, oh well. I only truly fail when I don't learn anything!

I'm looking to make a little more of it, maybe sharing some ideas & collaborating with you guys?

I mainly do Progressive styles, and something I can only describe as "electrotechouse"

Anyone else out there?
i did start some complextro project. nothing really that good it's sounding ok though, just wanted to make it for the fun of it one night but haven't been working on it recently. would like to finish it though

I'm working on my first house track in years right now. Hopefully it'll get finished, I think it would sound good in my sets...can't decide if it should be 130 or 136bpm though. I guess I'll just decide when it's finished haha.

I'm def. a house guy...
the only thing I hate about producing house (& club)... after a while you'll dislike your own tunes, I barely can't listen to my own house songs :corntard:

This one just came out (It's more clubby, tough)

i really love house. been a head for quite a moment.

dubstep is somehow the granddaughter of house so i think there's def ways to mix both...

thing is i like the fact that dubstep songs are actual songs, with an intro and an ending... its still dance music, but it's songs... house is often produced with mixing in mind, which is good, but always leave me on the feeling that i didnt finish the tune... i think its just really hard to do songs that stand on their own, and are still dj friendly... ur thoughts?

At work but I'll listen to the tunes in this thread once I'm in the car.

I make mostly tech-house.. dubstep, dnb, and psytrance are side projects. I'd be happy to collab with someone on a house/fast techno/electro/speed garage tune!

I'm a decently accomplished producer, you can hear some tunes here

i started out making a lot of house, but began to get overly frustrated about not being able to create the massively dominant subby kicks that seem to have a shuffle of their own, and gave up...

Soundcloud

something i made awhile ago in reason. i'd be pretty down to collab with someone on this stuff though... it's really fun. also, will be beginning work with ableton, it's just that my, uh, less than legit copy doesn't seem to be working, but that should be cleared up soon.

i know its not the subject, but 4 4 kicks with their own soul are easier to achieve on hardware, ever thought of that?

actually i hadn't even considered that. unfortunately though, i think hardware is completely out of the picture for me, since i neither have the funds for it or know anyone else who does. i take it most of these big house and trance guys are using hardware?...

That's the way I see it, I think that most of my dubstep is fairly housey in aspects, and in every tune I do I try to make it mix-ready with the DJ in mind while producing. That being said, occasionally, worrying about that kind of thing can do my head in at times  all about the balance I guess

I've dabbled, but I always abandon my house songs after a few hours. I can never find a tempo I'm satisfied with... I think it's the constant kick; it starts to annoy me so I change the tempo, starting a vicious cycle :P

ahhh.. the key to good house is interesting kick programming! dropping out for a few beats after 8 bars is the simplest.. adding an extra one here and there can do wonders! put some kicks playing triplets every now and again.. and of course little kick rolls.. house can be very bad and boring but can also be the most euphoric thing ever

so much!

@ Johnst :

There's still ways to emulate the "live" or "innacurate" sonic manifestations of hardware. there's a whole field of discussion about the subject.. but here's a couple ideas :

THEY ARE MY OPINION, IM OFTEN WRONG, but here :

- hardware samplers are often praised for their uber tight sequencers (when they have one). and it has to do with their reputation of having good rythms.. but to me there's the sequencer, and the actual soundwave. they have randomness in their sound..

- try to modulate the length of a kick... like the decay/sustain, but in an extremely subtle way, it has to be "subconsciously perceivable" only. and fast modulate it.. so its almost random (i do that in kontakt).

-try to modulate the attack even more slightly by modulating the actual attack, or a transient designer's "strenght/amount"... but really slightly...

honestly, these two things, along with proper eq and saturation.. allow me to get results incredibly close to my fav hardware sampler.

if ur pitching 808s. try treating them by split frequencies.

in kontakt u just set it once and then u save it as a template!

Shit man some really good tips there. Would never have thought of trying anything like that. Definitely giving this a go with my next project. :Q:

its a bit of overdoing... but i swear i could listen to that type of 44 kick for 10 minutes without getting tired... whereas straight kick sample in a daw will bore me after 3 and a half bars..
