i´ve got a saffire pro 24 and i had quite some issues with it. on my old macbook it worked really horribly. sound dropouts all the time. i only have little issues with it on my new mac pro, though. sometimes it stops working when i connect or disconnect external harddrives. it also sometimes happens after the sleep-mode. other than that it is a great soundcard!

yeah i have the saffire 14 and it is a bit buggy sometimes, like ill turn it on, and theres no sound, but usually just a reboot does the trick, i dunno whether its anything to do with how quick i try to use it, if i turn it on, and start slow it usually works, but if i turn it on then the monitors and try and play something as soon as i turn it on it, probably wont work. it sometimes drops out when i turn logic on too, but again just restart it.
other than that its great! i mean firewire has a faster transfer speed, but probably not too noticable really USB is fast enough, unless maybe recording multiple instruments at a time, but i have a macbook and only have 2 USB slots and 1 firewire, so it being firewire i can use the USB slots at the same time.

Crosby wrote:Mic'ing a Amp is always a better choice, gives a more natural sound and reverb, DI just sounds tacky and horrible.
Place your amp in the corner of your room facing towards the center and place your mic like this against the cone of your amp (About 2-4 inches away)

You'll have to play around with mic placement to get the best sound for your setup. The Mic shown in the pic is a Shure SM57 and is a industry standard dynamic microphone, dynamic mics seem to be the best and most commonly used for this recording. (Make sure your speakers are muted to avoid any feedback, use headphones to listen to the click track or track your recording against)
Bass guitar is better with DI however.
Have Fun

First of All, micing an amp is definately not always the best choice, it depends completely on the room your recording in, the instrument, the amp, the mic and the preamp. DI is kind of a safe bet If your room isnt acousticly treated and you have much more control over a clean DI signal, using something Like guitar rig to record through or process the signal afterwards, if youre not an experienced recording engineer. Same applies to bass guitars. However if your room is properly treated and your instrument, amp, mic and preamp sounds good recording your amp Can Sound really good and as Said more natural.

Btw i have a focusrite liquid saffire 56 and the only problem ive ever had with it was finding a firewire card that it was compatible with. I really Like it and the preamp emulations are great.

i still got original saffire DSP and works perfect preams are still good, outputs are great (all 10 of them) my mate borrwed it for a live set when his MOTU ultalight decided to be gay. the saffire out perfomed it not only due to more outputs and low latencey but allso the onbord DSP processer compresser in this case made the perfomance a whole lot nicer to listen to

Hi guys,
I am juts about to purchase a Saffire 6 as an upgrade to the crappy USB soundcard I have been using. Can anyone suggest what cables I should get? My monitors accept XLR balanced and 1/4” balanced/unbalanced inputs. My current cables are RCA/TS but I'm guessing that these are not the best?
Cheers

i use 1/4" jack to XLR cables, so it leaves the interface with jack and enters the monitors with XLR, i was gonna just get jack to jack, but they said an XLR connection is more secure so i went with them, i mean you can use rca if your interface and monitors both use them, but if not and you need to get convertors id just get jack or XLR.

^ You don't need anything more than that for EDM and if you do - then you'll know what you're looking for and its deffo not in that price range.

dunno, but this looks like a better solution

if anyone's into resampling then higher sample rates are a must imo

I picked up a Saffire 6 and it's pretty good but i still get some crackles when too much is going on in FL, i'm thinking it may be driver related as my computer should have more than enough power to handle it. Anyone had any issues?

My roommate has one, my only problem with it is that its gain does not seem to go loud enough.... otherwise It works great, I think your only getting crackles if your comp cant handle it, mine is brand new and there is no issue.

Are you using the trs or rca outs? The rca outs are -10db for using vinyl and the trs outs are + 3 or 4 db. The trs outa r plenty loud imo. I thot the gain did not have enough output compared to other interfaces at first but then i realized that was just the way they have the rca outs for vinyl
