Quoted for truth. The clicks in the second example are most likely from resampling the kick inbetween zero crossings of the sample. Only way to resolve this is to have very short crossfades between the samples. Attacks between 1 and 10 ms will preserve most of the attack of the sample while eliminating the pops.

You could use Subatomic. It's free.

It's extremely simple, but it works really well. I use it all the time.

pitch envelope pitch envelope pitch envelope pitch envelope pitch envelope pitch envelope

amp envelope

it's basically these two things, on a sine wave.

maybe a bit of saturation for some harmonics, and some EQ.

*maybe* some layered short attack from a 707 or something

but don't think about it too much. it's 90% in the envelopes. goldbaby won't really help you here.

thanks to Electric_Head for mentioning the drum machine samples shootout, here's a link for that:
http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2010/09 ... e-samples/

check it out, it features all the free 808 sample packs i've found online, some are seriously good stuff for bass.

and for 808 drum sounds in general, check out TS-808:
http://tactilesounds.blogspot.com/p/tac ... izers.html

it's a great freeware emulation of the TR-808, modeled after Goldbaby's samples.

Open up any soft synth. Set osc 1 to sine wave. Quick attack. Slow Release.

SubAtomic occasionally spazzs out when I run it through FL. Useful, but not as useful as I want it to be.
