BPM 115-145
Experimental drums, percussion or sample-rhythms that last more than 2 bars
Sub-bass groove or deep bongas

Brostep is no Dubstep because it has neither sub-bass nor bongas. It is more breakbeat, where Dubstep musical neighbours are Dub, UK Garage, Juke, Techno, and yeah, Breakbeat. When I said my mom I produce dubstep, she said she called that "Chillout". I think for better definition I just say what Shackleton said: "Interesting bass music"
My new EP "Slow Motion" is now avaible on Virtualgroov!

There's so much variation in dubstep that one definition won't do it. I say it's electronic music around 140 bpm with a 2-step drum pattern, that has either a. deep, reverbrant bass and a soft atmosphere or b. distorted midrange LFO wobbles

If today's standards are anything to go by, it certainly has nothing to with dub anymore. it couldnt be any further from dub if it tried.
and i'm a reet grumpy ol chap.

Bass that rapes my face, and above all, tickles my balls.
