Save for playing games, or maybe the odd non mac vst, why on earth would I ruin my laptop experience with windows?! I already have to run XP on it via Fusion and it just serves as a constant reminder of what a pain in the ass windows is to use.

It took me until Lion came out to upgrade to Snow Leopard, and I already want to go back to Leopard.

I think upgrading OS's on a mac should be done when you buy an updated hardware box (computer). Sure, cool new things in Lion, but is it worth dragging your old hardware down?

Although the biggest problem I have with a new OS from any company is the incompatibility with Apps and Programs that worked fine on the preview iteration of that OS.

Why would you upgrade directly after it comes out? ... There's nothing wrong with snow leopard (hell, i still use tiger for some of my production), just a few new gizmo's. Don't feel the need, don't do it. Feel the need it. Think about the losses, think about it a lot. Because i can guarantee you there'll be troubles.

sorry for the delayed reply, im in portugal rite now in an internet-less village without my computer... been sorting things out in my head.

The thing that has always killed me about software is my rather unhealthy use of cpu...

and then i saw this :

been shoppin around and reading about the technology, which is rather new and unaffordable atm ...

but since im a cash spittin rapscallion, im ready to shell out more then 1.50 CAD a meg.

Yet, there seems to be a considerable con : these ssds loose speed overtime.. their performance gets shrunk as u use them... here's a short article that explains why...

TRIM basically tells the OS where these useless duplicated infos are on the drive and allows it to wipe them off.. thus reducing the performance loss...

trim was only availiable for windows users until there were speculations about its implementation to the new verison of MacOS... ive been confirmed by a few sources that Lion supports TRIM...

which all makes me a very anxious panda...

cant imagine what i could FINALLY do with all that extra juice... as cpu is the biggest flaw of my soft-setup... and no i wont buy a desktop as i NEED my laptop.. and dont have enough money for two computers...

ps : @Dep, u say ur stuff all works okay except that midi controller... did u reinstall everything from the ground up!?!? im not surprised it all worked cause i know ur an avid defender of legit software (that makes me very admirative)... which is not everyone's case around here (im trying hard to be like that too)

We upgraded from them DAWs because of limitations and as a result had to upgrade the native OS it ran on. Upgrading the OS for fun, even though it could be more problematic to your music making experience (which is fine under the current OS as most people claim) is a stupid move. That is the point I was making.

i'm staying away from Lion, my machine is almost a year old and mad clean/smooth... Maybe later.

No need to re-install everything, its just updates the OS and leaves all your files how they were. All It had to do was the re-scan my audio units, but after waiting 5 or so mins everything worked as it should.
And yeah I picked up the latest drivers from roland that were for the 10.7 lion update, and the keybaord now works as it should. Actually massive props to Roland for still supporting my 6 year old midi keyboard! Normally by that time, all support is dropped from a product.

Nono, thats all good. I have an imac so i cant fit an ssd inside, but from what it sounds like, its a stable option having trim support on an ssd. Waiting to build a haclintosh next so i can customise it at my will

10.7.1 is out and has fixed sound card issues that were there before :]
