as for his breaks, theyre jus sampled breaks.. get massive attack-blue lines and mezzanine albums, i think hes sampled more than one or two breaks or one-shots from them albums
i've "accquired" the separate tracks from teardrop 8)

What vocal samples are you talking about above?
I dont think its sharpening knives ,but the sound of a firearm being cocked-y'now for that true South London vibe-even tho that should go-stab,stab,squelch-guess it just has'nt got the same percussive attack.

I always used to think it was prayer, the church tune, but listening to it again i can't hear any footsteps or atmosphere changes. I must have imagined it.

B: There’s one tune on the album, ‘Prayer’ that has a recording of one dude walking down the street and the walking into a church. You can’t analyse what the change is, there’s just some change in the air, the air in the tune.

here's the whole interview

i've been looking around various sites for something like that since i read this thread...there's loads of sounds i hear just on my usual day to work that i've thought 'that would sound good with a beat over it' about...mostly on the tube, that clackety-clack has got a sick rhythm :D

i love this idea of using your surroundings as a basis for music

i found some sword samples on freesound at the weekend and experimented with making hats with those. kinda sounded like burial, but kinda not.
I don't understand how he does it - he claims in that blackdown blog just to use soundforge and nothing else but that is impossible afaik.

it's not impossible at all. i'm sure it takes a bit of patience but it's entirely possible

well maybe, but seeing as it isn't multitrack how would you apply different levels of fx/eq to different elements? how would you write a tune w/o being able to do that? that's what i call nigh on impossible...
