I don't know what goth trad stuff is but I can tell you right now that as far as complex synth programming goes, producers like Skrillex, Shekel, Diesel or Cyberoptix are at the forefront of all electronic music along with Tipper, Shpongle and the like. A lot of brostep is more simplistic, like Datsik or Rusko's newer stuff but a lot of it is insanely complex.

Now, if you're gonna talk about the musical/composition side, which I think you are (referring to soul and aim), then you're right that a lot of the deeper stuff is more musical than most brostep, but you can't make sweeping generalizations like that.

I didn't make a single assumption in my post. All I said was: 1. some brostep is extremely complex 2. some proper dubstep is more musical than brostep, but not necessarily all of it

I disagree. I could transcribe midi and audio any trance track in a few hours, but something like Datsik's - Gecko would take me fking ages.

crazy dirty insane aggressive bass got too easy for me about a year ago. i can make bass as dirty as sin in 5 minutes... creating something like psychadelic trance requires 10x as much time and effort, as well as subtlety and finesse. and actually challenges me..

it's all basically the same thing tho. do whatever is fresh to you. i think i may go back to dubstep with my new vibes someday soon, when i actually feel I can use it to say something.

Just listening to some Biome, it's actually really good! Thanks for the recommendation. The thing is, Biome is using a lot of midrange and high range sounds and wobbles. I wouldn't call it brostep, but it's definitely borrowing those elements. There's lots of brostep with that complex, technical feel and most proper dubstep is all in the sub bass, so you can't really do modulations with that. But yeah, there definitely is non-brostep that's very complex. Never said there wasn't...

yeah I could that. But the eastern wind instrument is done by a session muso i think, but everything else is doable. I've done like 2-300 transcribed trance, classical, film score, ambient and hardcore tracks over about 10 years.

If you really want, I will transcribe the midi and send it to you.

Trance is basic and easy? or just Tiesto. Since you mention Tiesto, how about you do a remix of 'pirates of the caribbean' (Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt score), the melody is 64 bars long btw. And by 'remix' I mean a recreation, not just chopping up audio.
