Re: Jesus Died 4 Dubstep
You know, plenty of the artists that pushed the sound when it was young don't have that bitterness because they understand it's just music and whether or not some 15 year old tnuc has a dubstep tattoo doesn't make an inkling of difference in what kind of sounds the real heads can push out. Only on DSF where you get this clique of self righteous know it alls that take every opportunity to post how they want to punch skrillex in the face do you see this melodramatic bullshit. If you put blue notez to the needle five years ago and did the same today... the tune sounds the same. No one ruined your dubstep. The dungeon sound lives on and is evolving. Even more creative heads have moved on to genres with less of a formula and push out sounds no one has heard before. The fact all you kids cry about it makes evident that it's not the music you are attached to but the hip "underground" scene or whatever.borrowed wrote:No shit? I dont even have a soundcloud. Get over yourselves guys, they like different music then you and are doing a hell of a better job promoting what they love than you.
As for me being one of those brostep bashers, I dont see how you can not, given most people on this forum's history with the music. A new sound comes around, a couple of people latch on to it and huddle around it, they enjoy it for a few years, then robot farts and electro happen and now dubstep is being sold on tshirts and hats to middleschoolers. No shit people here have an attachment and get bitter when some kid who wants to push his "brand" of dubstep that he spent a half an hour making and plasters it all over social media sites that no one reads.
Re: Jesus Died 4 Dubstep
Why do you talk like im part of some anti-brostep squad that collectively hates on noisy dubstep as a mission? I'm just some fuckin guy with an opinion based on shit I've seen, lets get that out of the way first off. I've never bought a vinyl record, I'm not a huge fan of DMZ, and the dungeon sound shit is boring. But, thats not what its about. Its not even about the characteristics of the music either. Its the fact that a group of people had something not well known that they had a lot of emotional attachment to, which then got popularized and in many ways, cheapened. OF COURSE people are going to be offended. The same is true for any artform that quickly becomes popular. If we had message boards in the 80s, you can bet there'd be an punkforum.com on which snobby punk purists bitch about new wave and American punk. If you had message boards in the 90s, there would have been pages and pages of hate for bling rappers and the commercialization of hip hop. Dubstep purists aren't different from any other removed subculture, stop seeing this shit so subjectively. There's no group of people (that I know of) that hate brostep together, merely individuals who may or may not share an opinion. Yeah, there's a lot of parroting and bandwagoning going on on this forum, but I'm not one of them and I doubt the folks here smarter than I are either.AllNightDayDream wrote: You know, plenty of the artists that pushed the sound when it was young don't have that bitterness because they understand it's just music and whether or not some 15 year old tnuc has a dubstep tattoo doesn't make an inkling of difference in what kind of sounds the real heads can push out. Dubstep should be known for what it actually is, and has been.. not this Electro House @ 140 that 15 year old boys have been getting wet about..
I hate when people tell me they don't like dubstep because they don't like borgore and doctor p
And earlier you stated something about all these brocannon skrillex pages doing a better job of pushing their sounds..

Oh cry me a river, they're such helpless victims, right? Like you said, anything that becomes popular is going to be more palatable and accessible and the artistry gets watered down. But the sound this forum was born from never became popular, it was a very different style. It's not like someone slapped t pain on request line and now everyone's eating it up. I actually frequent a punk forum that follows anything but punk anymore, but you don't see people bitching about it in every other thread. They move on and promote the music they like. On this site there are plenty of tunes of all shapes and sizes for people to find so it baffles me how people can still pretend like they're owed something by this new school of sound.borrowed wrote: Why do you talk like im part of some anti-brostep squad that collectively hates on noisy dubstep as a mission? As for the bold, it's definitely gotten a lot better. But I would put money down that if you opened any thread about skrillex, modestep, zomboy, flux, etc. at least 50% of the posts are mindless negative comments. Obviously no one is obliged to like any kind of music but the fact people go in those threads en masse and bash tunes and +1 each other is telling of the attitude of a good portion of the posters here. Not only that it just serves to promote the tunes themselves so it makes them all look like dumb asses to anyone who pays attention. It's not that people are conspiring against brostep, but that it's cool and makes you look authentic to hate it and it creates this mob mentality.
Take this thread for example. JD4D don't make any money off of what they do. They post tunes they like, and people dig their taste. At the end of the day, they're spreading music certain people identify with. Then you get this clique of hipsters here who'll take more time of their day listening to/talking about shit they supposedly hate as if that somehow reinforces their taste. I think the dungeon sound is exactly like brostep in that it's mostly uninspiring, formulaic, but great to dance to. But you don't see me going in shackleton or DMZ threads bashing everything, because there's no point to that and my experiences with great uplifting music teaches me to live and let live, spread love not war. That's the message of just about any great musical following throughout history. It's just terribly ironic that all these people supposedly representing this lovely sound spread so much negativity.
Dubstep is maturing to what all other forms of dance music become: a large diverse assortment of styles and sounds with a few similar characteristics. There is no tune to sum up what House is, or what DNB is, IDM, Trip-hop, Ambient, Dubstep, etc. Look up any interviews of the founders like skream mala coki etc. and they all say "people call my music dubstep". Very few of them will say "I am a dubstep artist". It's an arbitrary word that means very little, created by fans so they can talk about it. Even Skrillex has never labeled himself as a dubstep artist.amidoinitrite wrote:

You latter comment completely misses the point. But you already made it clear you're not concerned about the music, but a word.

Yup, taste is subjective and it's a lost cause against brostep v. dubstep. Eventually dubstep will die just like dnb.

lol start @ 1 min.. the second thing he says in the interview.
The dude made some Electro House tunes at 140, promoted it as dubstep.. and people who've never heard dubstep before accepted the name. and that is now Dubstep.. seems like a bullshit(well played) marketing move if you ask me.

hahaha you should apply at fox news, listen again, he's talking about incorporating many genres together, which is what he does. But you can continue crying about a name that doesn't mean anything.amidoinitrite wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_EPt6L0llgAllNightDayDream wrote: Dubstep is maturing to what all other forms of dance music become: a large diverse assortment of styles and sounds with a few similar characteristics. he said: "my record is multiple genres, progressive house, dubstep.."
so you're gonna tell me he never said he produces dubstep? but he claims its on this album?
nice logic
+ show me the dubstep influences? tempo?
and later they go on to say how "my name is skrillex" isn't dubstep.. which implies he has other tracks that are.
and your last sentence is exactly the point I'm trying to make.
Dubstep went from being sub driven music with actual vibe.. to anything at 140
It makes sense to the people who are use to referring to dubstep as dubstep to be put off by considering anything at 140 dubstep.
Re: Jesus Died 4 Dubstep
I didnt really read a word past the first sentence, because I don't really care, but let me just add this. I'm explaining why people feel pissed about brostep because you can't seem to understand different people have different reasons. Go preach somewhere else.AllNightDayDream wrote: Oh cry me a river, they're such helpless victims, right? Re: Jesus Died 4 Dubstep
I'm with AllNight on this one. Amido's angry that everything at 140 gets classified as dubstep, yet has this understanding that it has to be sub driven music with "real vibe" to it. Who made the rules, and why do you follow them? The people who make real music don't care what you call it, and the only reason they list off every subgenre of electronic music is because people like you expect them to.

I said thats what it was known as. not, thats what it has to be. huge difference.Siderealdb wrote:I'm with AllNight on this one. Amido's angry that everything at 140 gets classified as dubstep, yet has this understanding that it has to be sub driven music with "real vibe" to it.
There is nothing wrong with it growing and expanding, but I it seems arrogant to make a 140 electro house tune and call it dubstep so you can be looked at as being innovated and new!
not too sure how anyone wouldn't agree that skrillex sounds more like electro house than dubstep!
I also can't believe that people on a dubstep forum don't understand the point I'm trying to make.. not that they have to agree with it.

i wouldnt really class shackleton or DMZ as the dungeon sound, i mean i dont really listen to any 'Dungeon' so i dunno, but id say they are more interesting and inspiring, and less formulaic that others.AllNightDayDream wrote:
