skillexx had to be a poor choice. and as per the OP, i instantly thought of komonazmuk, that name is well ugly, clunky, basically sounds like common as muck... and the tunes are some of the best i ever heard, yet not very popular afaik. one of my top tearout producers

Was common as muck unintentional? Not so sure myself...

Certain names that are annoying to type (V.I.V.E.K.) as well as names that are too common to return a good search result (Jack Sparrow, Truth, Joker, Distance, etc.) can't be good for their brand when people are trying to find info/tunes from them...

The best names are always simple but distinctive, like a common word with a unique spelling or a catchy, 2-syllable word:

let's take an example.
You can't decide where yu lie between being an evil bastard & a highly evolved human being.
You want to explore this dichotomy in your music.
You contemplate the words evil & evolved
(both of which wouldn't google readily to your advantage).
You want a resolution which infers both
within a succinct, distinctive name.
You like the darkness of the first & the progressiveness of the other
and come up with evol.
It's not quite evolved, but then neither are you.
It's disadvantaged by sounding like a small animal (although a SUBterranean animal)
but then you realize, it's an anagram


& savour the perfect irony that evol can be transformed
to become ****
& that that aspiration is as profound as you will ever be.

don't get me wrong, i love your tunes, but... how the hell are you supposed to say it?

tweeking it to become arsehole seems obvious
but maybe you want to be less base
but aeolho reminds me of aeolian which nicely relates to music & wind
so I think airhole...which has a nice breeziness
then I googled the anatomical name for mammalian airhole...couldn't find one
but breathing hole comes up (essential to life)
hole seems to be essential to aeolho
& inhale is a synonym for inspiration, which could be nice
but there's a night down here called Inhale
& you mightn't be into the drug reference
so I'm thinking slight change to make it unique: inhole
particularly suitable if you are female or gay...

but, if your music is spacious & relaxing, how about xhale

& find it only pronounceable by using j=y
to become ap-myee or ap-myay
It would be a good name for a deaf producer...
The basic difficulty is the p & m being consecutive
apjme? ('appyme...apogee?)
but presumably that would make it meaningless to you.

It becomes particularly difficult when you're trying to rep various aspects of dubstep
...dub/sub/punk/breaks/metal/jungle/deep/samples/intelligence/fun/dance/drugs/darkness...
with a name that has little room to move, like:

Trolley Snatcha
Trillbass
Hektagon
Pistons Beneath

again imo monikers that offput for lack of nuance, mutability & easy engagement

but, that's why it's important to push past a name to the music

Flippo doesn't make music for circuses
Tolerance isn't any more tolerant of shit music than you or I
Excision's tunes aren't all cutting edge
Chimpo doesn't play random notes with a hammer
Clubroot's tracks don't have people shagging on the dancefloor (well, sometimes...)
I can't hear much politics in Protesta's productions
Random Trio isn't a trio
and Quest has been known to do requests.

So I'm gunna keep trying to give HGLDT, Furesshu, BItCrunch3r etal, a listen without prejudging.

Actually this name immediately jumped out when I saw it. I don't remember where I saw it now, I still have no clue what he's doing, but it's the only name in this topic sticking out for me, so that's saying something. I'd expect some kind of story behind a name like that, instead of the ever increasing bunch of artists that are just 2 or 3 letters.

Exactly the same for me. When someone mentioned him I thought I knew exactly what to expect of his music, though when I actually listened to one of his tunes I was pleasantly surprised.
And I know that I don't have anything to say about this, but I personally feel that his music deserves a better monniker than his current. Because I think alot of people, because of his nickname, will put him in a box where he doesn't belong before they have even heard his music.
But that's just my opinion. In the end he produces killer tunes and that's all that matters of course.
