Agreed but I wouldn't agree with the age thing. I'm 19 and got into electronic music because of my brother being hugely into jungle whilst I was growing up. It's got nothing to do with age. Dubstep was created to be intelligent. I see plenty of 25+ raving about "brostep". It's just a dumbed down watered down version of the real thing.

Dont think it really matters how you get into dubstep, its more about where you decide to go from there. It shows how important it is for you to explore a sound. i think the dubstep genre as a whole is a great way to measure how much a person is "into" electronic music. How shallow or deep you want to swim is completely up to you.

I suppose I lean more to the brostep kinds of things. That being said, I can't stand hearing "that's ok, but it's just not filthy enough for me". I like older style and newer style dubstep. I heard some benga a few years back but really got into it after hearing "wu-tang enter the dubstep cd". Most of the tracks on it aren't all that great IMO, but that's what got me wanting to produce it. Before that I was (and still am) a hip-hop kid. For me there's nothing better than listening to some J-dilla, 9th wonder, or old mobb deep.

yeah I get that, bigger audience etc it's just that you get an audience that pushes the uninspired, crappy sound, and you'll get more producers making shit... on the other hand the "purists" reaction is to keep pushing a sound that quite frankly is getting kind of old. The guys that have really been pushing the music forward the last couple of years have been the house (and garage and funky) inspired artists, and it can hardly be called "dubstep" anymore.
I don't think you need bigger numbers or a wider audience, no good will come from more mainstream popularity at this point. just look at what happened to UK Garage in the early 2000s.

Well if it's in him to make "music" he doesn't need the filth in the first place. If people gravitate towards shitty music it's because they like shitty music and they'll eventually make shitty music. "Dubstep" attracting bigger crowds than house is not necessarily a good thing, as "dubstep" is not "better" or "superior" to house and especially not the lowest-common-denominator filth that attracts 95% of "dubstep" fans.
Also you mention drumstep and moombahton, but "drumstep" is halfstep drum n bass, it's been around for years and I wouldn't say it's "uppin the ante" percussion wise at all. And "Moombahton" is p much unrelated to dubstep...

I just don't see bro contributing positively to the "evolution of music" at this point...

it's got everything to do with age. obviously there's exceptions, but for the most part, it's a bunch of teens and college kids who are just caught up in this gimmick of FILTHY LOL... every generation has its stupid shit that gets really popular, the teens of this generation have justin bieber and brostep....
