Correction, the bible belt sucks.
Every state locks people up for ridiculous amounts of time for stupid shit like the drug war. You can still get the death penalty for drugs convictions in some states.
This thread reminds me of this. I came across this amazing piece of logic other day.

we could put them to life in prison to be victimized by other inmates, we could lock them in a cell and leave them to die of starvation, dehydration, or asphyxiation, we could just kill them ON THE SPOT! But instead, the American government chooses to spend millions of dollars to kill people in what has been done in wars for free. Why are we Americans so ignorant?

thread title was missing 'again' at the end.
what a surprise, the US judicial system riding roughshod over the same civil liberties they're sworn to protect and appear to take so seriously when infringed by other nation states. hypocritical in the extreme IMO.
A life is a life, doesn't matter who you are or what you've done. No one has the right to take someone else's.

Good tweet:

Well done America, you've disgusted the world again... the ability to hide behind "Well, it's
their choice as a State" holds your union back decades. If you're going to act globally as one country, act domestically as one fucking country.

even if there is no doubt that a person is guilty its a really bad system to ever allow those in power to kill their own citizens, state sanctioned murder sends really bad messages and moral grounding ('if you kill someone we'll kill you' is a barbaric way of looking at things, almost might as well have mob rule). but if there is doubt like in this case then it seems even more criminal to let it go ahead

death penalty = archaic
I bet Kasey Anthony would have been convicted if they had taken death penalty off the table.
