I realize that DJ's of the world seem to unanimously hate laptop DJ's but as fellow producers we have all paid an almost equal amount just for our production software/hardware, and just to get our music out there which we spend so much time and money on we would have to pay hundreds again? Is something wrong there?

I second djamesh's post. if your budget is small and youre unsure whether djing is your thing, just buy a midi controller and couple it with Live or a virtual dj software. Look at novations nocturn or x session pro by m audio. Dont spend any more than that until youre completely sure youre into mixing.

It shouldn't matter what people think. If you are first starting out, you are not going to be at any clubs, most likely you will be in your room. I would just get whatever you are going to be comfortable using. The last thing you want is to shell out 1000 or so dollars, just to end up being over whelmed by using the turntables. On top of that, if most of the people that buy vinyl turntables have a collection of some sort. If you don't have a good stash of vinyl you will need to shell out more money to buy vinyl.
