ah, sarcastic, ok I forgive you, lollings
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
gotta disagree mr seckle. i couldn't tell you the number links i've followed from backspace in particular searching for and listening to tunes, both linked through other websites like this one and from the recommended links on youtube. i've used links from backspace to show tunes to a huge number of people. and there are a lot of people i know who do similar stuffseckle wrote:Spare us this " but the channel was helping spread the sound" bullshit. i completely understand why the channel would be taken down. obviously the copyright issues and audio ripping etc outweighed the benefits of spreading the sound, but i definitely don't agree that channels like backspace have no role in spreading dubstep
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
this is a huge loss... channels like these really help when you're trying to expose people who might not have heard this type of stuff, and i've "converted" many people by being able to quickly link videos like these...

This motherfucker speaks the motherfucking TRUTH!Jake Daniel wrote:what a silly thing to say - channels like that are obviously spreading the sound. I'm not saying Z Audio shouldn't have done what they did or anything but to deny that channels like these aren't really good places for people to discover new music is just stupid. I can't count how many new tunes or producers I've come across simply by browsing through tunes on Youtube. As I said, I'm not really defending nore attacking either Z Audio or Backspace but you're post just seemed a bit ignorant.seckle wrote:Spare us this " but the channel was helping spread the sound" bullshit. Personally I just see it as another promotional platform - its not like Backspace was putting up links to download the tunes illegally (like some channels) - they were trying to promote the music and also trying and encourage people to go out and buy the records or buy the digital releases.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
backspace was a serious channel. when i first got into the scene i found a lot of the 'classic' tunes through here and i feel that it was always trying to push people to buy the music and not just rip it off youtube (as loads of channels actually seem to encourage). RIP inanimate internetz page

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
How can you support the music financially if it hasnt been released yet?? You reckon people have all the time in the world to sit listening to whole radio shows on the off chance they may or may not hear a tune??seckle wrote:Fuck this "generational attitude" bullshit. Like people have said, uploading full version of tracks may lead to missed sales and its totally understandable people would want these removed. However uploading a rip of a track that isnt anywhere else on the net (no soundcloud etc), with DJs/MCs talking all over it, shouldnt be classed as a hindrance to an artist. If I made a track worthy enough for somebody to rip it from a set and upload to youtube, which lead to people talking about said track I would fully back this.
People need to know that if theyre going to be so protective of their music that nobody can listen to it, and links get removed etc etc then this isnt going to assist them in making sales, its going to reduce their sales.
No. UKF get sent the tracks by the artists, so they have permission to upload them.epochalypso wrote:Dang!

so what you're saying is basically a fuck you to the producers, labels and distro houses.....their intellectual property is yours for the taking, and therefore you feel entitled to not only upload it, but hey, lets make some google cash off the back of it too, in the name of promo. Theres so many entitlement issues going on with attitudes on this forum its fucking unreal. The worlds not yours by virtue of what you can click on and consume.
Many of these youtube channels have gone on to create these internet empire glass houses in the name of promotion. I'm really happy that labels and distro houses are actively filing complaints to see these channels closed down. And before you come back with some further promotional explanations and justifications, the fact of the matter is that google could give a fuck about underground music. See the bigger picture here. By adsensing someone elses intellectual property, you line google pockets, and that helps no labels or producers in the process. This is a world of free promotional tools. Labels can do it themselves, so fucking let them make their OWN promo choices.

I agree. But with my channel for example, I cooperate or the artists themselves cooperate with me to put their content up so it gains exposure their productions - this is the legitimate way to do it, surely.seckle wrote:so what you're saying is basically a fuck you to the producers, labels and distro houses.....their intellectual property is yours for the taking, and therefore you feel entitled to not only upload it, but hey, lets make some google cash off the back of it too, in the name of promo. I make no profit whatsoever.seckle wrote: Are there ad's on your videos? If so, are you taking that click cash, or are you giving it back to the producers?
I just want to push good music and create a platform for underground artists not necessarily getting the attention they're entitled too.
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
If thats really the case then you're a minority in comparison to some of these other channels. Most of the biggest dubstep related collection channels are adsense, and 90% of the people clicking and using those channels probably have no fucking idea about the pisstaking going on with google cash. Google have made it very clear in the last 3 years that they want people to help them make more money, at the expense of copyrights and intellectual property.AJP UK wrote:I make no profit whatsoever.seckle wrote: Are there ad's on your videos? Basically that must be exactly what I'm saying. Yes. I'm saying I will do whatever the fuck I want, and take food out of producers mouths and money from their pockets, by going out and purchasing music I have heard on Youtube or anywhere else it may be.seckle wrote:so what you're saying is basically a fuck you to the producers, labels and distro houses.....their intellectual property is yours for the taking, and therefore you feel entitled to not only upload it, but hey, lets make some google cash off the back of it too, in the name of promo. How much do people even earn money from a click on Youtube? Dont you actually have to click on the ad to earn money? I dont even know, because I go there to listen to music that I may want to purchase or look further into. I apologise if that hasnt been uploaded by the artist. I dont even upload stuff myself. Wouldnt know how the fuck to do it.

If I was told that I would be getting money then obviously a percentage would go to the producer, standard. All for supporting the artists!

Edited****** is the biggest Youtube channel I know of that promotes non-UKF type stuff. There are no ads whatsoever. If that's not good natured promotion, I don't know what is. The adsense argument seems to be a bit of a strawman; I honestly hardly see any non-official youtube uploads that ads on them.IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SOUND

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
not nearly a straw man example...here are three massive tunes on YT just to further my point...
benga & coki night search on YT
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... aq=f&aql=f
First 20 results, 15 videos have adsense.
skream midnight RL search on YT
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... aq=f&aql=t
First 20 results, 13 videos have adsense.
la roux in for the kill search on YT
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... aq=f&aql=t
First 20 results, 17 have adsense
in the grand scheme of things, adsense is half of the problem. When you click upload on a video, you give youtube authorization to playback that tune. this means that when the label legitimately uploads the tune to a VEVO acct lets say, which is the revenue system that does support the labels and artists, they in turn lose clicks on all these other bullshit uploads kicking about.
http://www.youtube.com/user/MagneticManVideo
http://www.youtube.com/user/rinsefm
now, many artists don't have vevo accts, but again...this is about entitlement.
