Not at all, but the less you're willing to pay, the more time you're probably going to have to spend sorting through endless heaps of rubbish in order to find something worth wearing. I live with girls that can dress themselves to an acceptable standard for a music awards night by spending a day going round thrift markets, but I don't have the time - I'd rather drop a few hundred quid every few months (or maybe even less often than that, tbh... bit of a splurge in winter and one in summer probably) to get half decent clobber without spending my entire life having to think about it.
We all have our vices... but the urge to look good seems a lot more natural than many. I've never really understood why people stigmatise fashion so much... it's as if those who can't be bothered want to force everyone else to compete on the same playing field. It's not our fault you're an ape that's evolved for millions of years specifically to make snap judgements of people by appearance, as well as the empathy to understand others are doing this too yet you've somehow still managed to not give a shit about what you look like to them. That's your disability, not society's.

i used to care a bit more when i was younger i dunno does everyone really care that much about the shallow image others form of them?
sometimes people look at my shoes and you can see they think theyre bait, but i feel sorry for them for being so materialistic
and i would say not caring how you look is hugely advantageous in some ways, obviously professionally its a different matter but it depends what youre gonna do...i cannot have empathy im afraid for people that for me waste not only money but also food and oxygen

Meh, it's just being honest about what sort of animals we are and live amongst. If I meet a new girl, the likelyhood is she will
very quickly look at my shoes and make a, possibly entirely subconscious, assumption about me based on them. We do the same thing, however much we'd like to say we don't (and I used to have huge arguments with my Dad about it as a long haired, scruffy teenager), we all do... depending on our social circle and our personal prejudices we might even make assumptions in opposite directions. You might see a girl in scruffy trainers and think it's great she doesn't give a fuck, she might look at yours and think you obviously care about deeper things; or she might notice your sexy DJ headphones... it's a personal choice. However subconsciously, you decide your image... and you use it to attract friends and mates that are compatible with your mindset.
I just don't get why anyone gets as worked up about fashion as they do. If you "don't care", why did you even bother going into gwa's thread? What was there to gain but unpleasantness from doing that? Surely you must give a fuck on some sort of level to not just walk on by saying "No, not for me..." rather than deciding "Yes, I'm going to stop in and hint at him being a materialistic twat. That'll make the world better, that will."

surely everyone relates the actions of others to themselves magma, i only know what i do...i guess im mentally ill or something but whatever i think im better off
i cant help thinking that the people that lived through the second world war had more substance than people that get concerned about the non-essentials...my headphones cost me £85 (used)..improved my ability to hear tunes when mixing and i also use them for production..of which has led to 7 tunes being signed plus more coming...to me thats a good investment rather than me buying them because a girl would think they were sexy..most girls probably would rather see a pair of beats as they are more fashionable...hd25s look very unstylish to most people i suspect
i mean if someone wrote how great hitler was youd jump in and say 'no he was an arsehole' wouldnt you?
its not the same thing but the same principle...would you let them go on thinking he was great and not want to say anything?
@noam if thats what you read into it cool but i know what i meant, i meant in relation to people having too many kids they cant pay for en masse with the oxygen thing...i meant people wasting food in relation to general food wastage
@sunklo i get that but when i asked why the coat was worth £300 i was met with hostility, as to me it is all about prestige and branding as far as i can see and less about functionality (related to fabric quality)
