You defo dont need to play just BRO, even if thats what they say they want.

Like people have said, play a bit more of the jump-up/tear-out stuff that isnt just all mid range. Like the people already listed. You can throw in the odd bro track. But only if you like it. Theres so many tracks out there, that you can find stuff you like and still fit in with their spec sheet.

I could never play out any tunes I wasn't feeling.

Bad enough listening to it, but having to actually think about the mix... :u:

If you really wanna do it, listen to what everyone else is saying, blast some of the deeper tearout shit. A happy medium.

this, all day long.

obviously a big part of playing out is playing what the people want.not many dj's can play just for themselves and get away with it, most have to cater for the crowd a bit. but it doesnt mean you have to no artistic integrity. if you're mates want you to play then it suggests they respect you enough to put you in control of the music so they should be willing to let you educate them at the same time as entertaining them. they arent mutually exclusive!

exactly

im willing to put a LOT of money on say, 80% of any crowd getting bored if they just hear the exact same type of music all night

the only people that dont are the ones who smashed on something or just fanboys/boring stnuc

if you're playing a house party play loadsa different stuff

love that about hoseparties - when you can play what you want, even if its not the newest track or dub.

this is one of my favouites to play at a house party, people go mad for it!

As the bills stack up I've been selling out my sets more and more. Used to be militant about playing the sets I wanted to play, whilst still keeping in mind the audience, but at this point I'll take fucking anything.

Double drop The Widdler with Joker, no need to play bro then.
But seriously there's loads of good tearout people will enjoy without it being bro. Just search, search and keep searching until you find tunes that'll fit.

If you ain't getting booked on the strength of a previous mix the promoter heard or knows of, then you should seriously ask why you are being booked in the first place and if the promoter is asking you to play music you are not comfortable with tell him to shut the fuck up and call in a bomb scare at said night at around 11ish.

Just stick on a youtube video of "the top ten SICKEST dub drops 2011 flux pavillion skrillex koan sond borgore" and loop. Same effect.

If you enjoy brostep, play it. If you're just going to play it to fit in and get more gigs then fuck off. Leave it to someone who at least enjoys the music. I don't mean to be harsh but in my opinion, DJing is 100% about pushing music you believe in.

play it if you like it, if you don't, there's no excuse to do so.

this is how to be a good dj.

any genre.

define polarities. like this is as hard as i am willing to go, and this is as vibey as i am willing to go.
contrast vocal tunes from minimal grimy tunes.
then work the balance between the polarities.
then tell people thanks when they tell you that you're an amazing dj.

As a promoter and a DJ, I'd say you play whatever you want to play. When booking support DJs I'm flooded with people sending me tearout mixes asking for gigs. It seems the ones that play decent stuff don't really promote themselves because they presume they're not gonna get booked, which is kind of sad. It's (in my experience) very hard to find local DJs playing good music.

obviously not all people/clubs/parties whatever are gonna want eyes down deep minimal stuff, but as many people have already said that doesn't mean you have to sell your soul. like amongst my collection i've identified some bits that i just know basically anyone who likes any kind of dubstep will enjoy, like people have said before distance, vex'd, jakes, the others, subscape etc and put some stuff that you wanna play in between

How Am I trolling? Shut up man...

To everyone else, I think I am going to expose them to a little more of the tearout Coki, kromestar stuff. I already know that the crowd is the bro/ tearout kind. most of my friends don't like the bass stuff because of its repetition, they think it is too boring. Probably gonna be throwing some Emalkay tunes, a few coki tunes.

Defiantly checkin those tracks you mentioned. Thanks guys ;-)

Despite my earlier post if I was forced into this situation I would just play some Grime.
