Got a question I think I know the answer to but just want to check.
If I have a wav of something that was only released digitally, am I OK to have a dubplate cut of the track (considering the record label has the copyright of the track etc)?

I've asked this here before and yes it's ok to do.Obviously as long as you legally purchased the wav

Yeah you retain ownership of a piece of music across different formats and locations once you've purchased it... before you could get done for ripping vinyls to your computer or even copying CD's across which was pretty daft but I think it was originally aimed at people 'home-taping' vinyls

A more perplexing question... if you create a dubplate off a digital track can you then sell it a profit like you do second-hand music?

I wouldn't do that. I find it equal to burning digital tracks to a CD and selling it second-hand.
Actually I pretty much equal cutting dubplates to burning CDs. In any scenario where it would be acceptable to do something with a CD it should be the same with a dubplate.

What about selling second hand cd's on discogs like? It's all a bit of a greyzone i think. If i cut a dubplate and then sold it down the line i wouldn't feel bad.Cause no doubt purchasing a brand new wav woulda been the cheaper option for whoever was buying it from me.

Yeah but what if someone cut two wav's of haunted/anti war dub whacked a white label on it, and started selling it as dmz007?
Granted, you'd have to be pretty stupid to buy it, but even so, some people would.

Mabe you can sell 2nd hand vinyl because you're relinquishing the right to ownership by accepting cash in exchange for the physical product? Sooo... if you've sold a vinyl but you've ripped it digitally does that mean you'd have to get rid of the rip?

there is nothing wrong with getting a .wav you purchased cut.
it's kind of pointless though unless the vinyl version isn't avail to purchase or ridic expensive (which isn't that many records really...)
and comparing it to selling a CD of tunes doesn't even make sense.
you aren't cutting the dubplate to sell it you're cutting it to PLAY IT.

Nah, we're just thinking about all of the possibilities, just as a random thought experiment. Cos DMZ007 goes for 100+ pounds on discogs, and if someone cuts a wav, slaps on a sticker and flogs it that would possibly be legal. dunno

Just checked their site, $30 for a 10" dub seems really reasonable compared to UK prices!

Someone asking about the turnaround for transition-
From sending the tracks to having the plate in my hand, it took 4 days and sounded top notch.

OK thanks for clearing this up, and yeah I legally have the WAV, just a tune I want to play out and mix with vinyls I own that unfortunately didn't make it to vinyl itself

If you ask the producer (released or unreleased) and they say yes then there is no problem
