kno wot u mean m8. i bin thinkin the same bout wot i bin doin. but like people said, its best t' come with ur own style! the tune sounds cool, love the feel of it. all i'd say is splash a bit o verb on the snare.

feeling this track m8, a different side too dubstep, you production is good, what did you produce b4 dubstep? keep working on these beats, like too hear sum more from you in the future.

for me, it helps, when i start a song, to imagine in a detailed way how i want the main synth riff & the drums (or other key parts of the song) to sound and then work from that.
of course playing around and experimenting is also the source of many good ideas, but as a starting point that's my favorite way to work.
the best songs i do when i have one synth sound/melody in my head and get it into Reason. sometimes it takes like one or two hours to get one sound how i want it but it's worth it.
just take you time to think of what you want your song to sound like and what you got to do to achieve that sound.

I started listening to Dubstep only 5-6 months ago myself, but the more dubstep i listened to the more my own stuff began sounding similar - not that i consider it as good as the tracks that are released, just the style became dubsteppier.

Tis sick mate, Dubstep SHOULD be hard to describe, theres alot of cliche dubstep out there, but theres also alot of creative freedom in which a tune can fall into the dubstep bracket. As far as im concerned dubstep is 140bpm bass heavy music, the rest is up to the producer. Either way you can't deny the influence of garage in dubstep as a whole, whether you like 2-step swung beats or 909 hats is irrelevant, dubstep is an evolution of garage, which has picked up certain influences along the way, just keep doing your thing and if its good its good.

Does this clip sound at all dubsteppy ? it was intended to be dubstep, its the same tempo but i dunno...just seems to not sound that dubsteppy.

I have a bit of the same... I want to make dark, brooding music with shuffled beats, but keep on making tingly melodic stuff with more of a straight breakbeat feel. Playing real bass guitar doesn't help either, since I feel inclined to play real melodies on with it This is the reason why I haven't released my dubstep(py) tracks just yet. Ah well, maybe I'm just getting too old to get into this new-fangled stuff, no matter how much I love it

Anyway, in my view it's all good. Your track wouldn't sound out of place in a dubstep-set.

That tune is top IMO! I've listened to it 20+ times since yesterday, real real nice mood, and I agree it could only improve with a little reverb on that snare..

Love the hook on the bass too, complemented by those sweet as f*k vocals.. pure class.

You could call it Dubstep or you could call it Downtempo. I just call it nice. Yeah, this is quite lush. My personal gripe is that I think the snare is too loud and could do with some velocity changes.

I think all my dub step sounds like a bad r&b/hip hop track at 140 without the vocals. I wouldn't worry too much about genre, as long as the influences are in there clearly in some aspect be it the speed or the drums or the bass I think people will get it and will associate it with the genre you intended.

Casually reading this thread like, this tnuc sounds like Zomby. Look at the dates, then the username, it all makes sense
