If they're the Vestax I'm thinking of, they're better than 1210's. People bang on about 1210's because they used to be club standard, not because they were the "best" for mixing on!

I'd say get the Serato and Vinyl set up. You can sample vinyl from the 70s to make tunes with, but you can't do that with CD. I'm sure you'll have someone near you who can teach you how to use CDJ's. They're so fucking easy if you've learnt on vinyl.

As someone who's been pure vinyl and much prefers it. Vinyl is dying, I have Serato and Turntables but the vast majority of places you'll play out if you make the step will be exclusively CDJ. Cannot stress enough to you to buy CDJs.

I use vinyl yet each time i've played out they've had shite belt drive decks or none at all and the cd's came out the bag. I've yet to play a record out of my bedroom.

I guess it depends on your area, Sydney heads are fairly pro-vinyl with the nights being 70/30 split in favour of vinyl.

Do you not outline that you require two recently serviced 1210's when they ask you to come play?

Every club ive played at has had a pair of 1210s in decent enough working order to play a solid set.

So, no if you don't want to use CDJs you don't have to - just don't play shite clubs.

As much as I respect you as someone who spends a lot of time pointing people in the right direction on this forum that is one of the worst bits of advice ever.

When you start playing out, you take what your given. I've played in small bars and larger venues seeing as I am not a superstar producer/DJ I don't get the chance to pick and choose. Unfortunately, you have to get your foot in the door because you carry any kind of clout. In my local area (West London) I reckon I have only seen one place around here with a pair of Technics 1210's everything else is pure CDJ. Fact of the matter is it is only ever going to get worse with the fact Technics have gone out of production so me, you and everyone else here unfortunately will have to make the transition.

yeh, what they said, but be aware of how you're gonna set your gear up if you go down the serato route, chances are you'll have to take your own laptop and soundcard,

Yes! One said they would and they didn't (it was a warehouse rave and Hatcha played and broke the system) and the other just said no and said i could take my own.

West London isn't exactly a hotspot for amazing clubs pushing underground music though is it? No offensive, SE London is shite too.

I only play vinyl if I know the club is going to have a good technics set up .. I admit I have played CDJs lately (due to getting really bad shoulders from lugging my bag around all the time.. I ain't the biggest man haha..) but there is more than a handful of clubs with great set ups which are not like stupidly impossible to get booked at even for your first gig.



I still don't have much clout in the London/its outta boarders and don't have a booking every week or once a month some times so...



ANYWAYS the point is.










I have used a CDJ 8 times in my life; I learned on vinyl and after the first time using CDJs I 'got' them instantly -if you can get a vinyl set up for home you'll not suffer when you get booked and they don't have decks.

Anyone ever taken their own decks to a night? Debating it

We used to take our decks to our monthly we threw as we have a perfect working order pair and liked DJs playing vinyl - I'd only do it if you have mates around who'll get a bit handy if people are mistreating them.

i've only had one booking where there was no technics. even then the promoter managed to get me some before i played.

I'd be the only one using them. This promoters doing my nut in. The nights at the end of January and he still wont get me decks.
