I'm going with Aliens.

Lol at no votes for 3 and 4. I'm sure 3 might be able to get 1 or 2 votes but 4 is just terrible. Still I paid money to see Alien vs Predator 2 in the cinema so what do I know.

Yeah I voted for the first one just because of the impact it had the first time I watched it. It's one of those movies that really creates its own universe, like star wars. But I still love them all nearly equally, even 4. That one actually scared me more than any of the others. Couldn't sleep that night haha

Really love this scene, builds up some brilliant intensity:

Just like Predator the first one is by far the best. Horror film sequels are never as good because you know what's going to happen, whereas the alien bursting out of his chest in the first one is a complete shock and is pretty damn scary.

I think Aliens is actually better for being quite action orientated (thank the switch to James Cameron for that). If they'd tried to do a purely Sci-fi horror like the first one it wouldn't have been as good. But yeah, it still stands first is the best and you can thank Ridley Scott for that. Afterwards, instead of making sequels he was busy making the epicness that is Blade Runner.

Yeah I agree with you that the second one had to be more action packed, and I do love the second. I'm just more a fan of the eery, atmospheric type horrors than the ones that are more action orientated. Same applies for 28 Day Later, hated the sequel to it.

I had a wicked afternoon last week in regards to Alien actually. Basically had a lecture on film music and sound where we were analysing the opening scene which in itself was something I really enjoyed, but to make it even better we were doing this in the lecture theatre that is essentially a cinema but with little tables in front of the seats and when it came to the end of the lecture we managed to persuade our lecturer to let us stay in there and watch the movie.

So I basically got to watch Alien in what is basically somewhere with a screen and sound of a cinema which was so fucking awesome. Makes me wish I could have actually seen all of them in the cinema.

The one with Sigourney Weaver was the best.

Plus I think the part in SpaceBalls where the alien dances out of his stomach was the best best.

I gave Alien 3 a vote cos I think its a great film and deserves more recognition, but the first two are undeniably the best in the series

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/

Thoughts? Scott's back on the director's chair but there seems to some debate (on the wikipedia page) whether it's still supposed to be an Alien prequel.

has to be the first. It was scary, and a horror film as opposed to an action film. Aliens was good, Alien 3 was OK, Alien Resurrection was meh.

First one all the way. The suspense in it is nuts!

There's no choosing between ALIEN and ALIENS really. They are two different sides to the same beast. Alien had epic suspense, frightfulness, awesome music (though some of it was used again in ALIENS), great acting too.
The second one is nearly two hours of quote after quote that I'm still using today. It's an action packed piece of adrenalin, the likes rarely get made today.

Alien 3 is not bad either though, I think it's depreciated for the wrong reasons. It had a low budget, but it was sort of a return to ALIEN, and let's face it, Ripley is fucking bad-ass. But yeah, three does get overshadowed by its older brothers.

The series ends there as far as I'm concerned.

3 is definitely under represented. I think it lives up to the first. It couldve been a million times worse, it was originally supposed to take place on a partially constructed wooden planet... Yikes.
