Similar, but Koan's are snappier and have less release. Also, they sound cleaner.
...in my opinion

then Its all about a super compressed 200hz punch man try an EQ / Comp / EQ until desired sound is achieved.
This is what got it for me^. I just crank the 200hz (or wherever the snare hits) way up in an EQ so it hits hard.

Im shit at making snares but the one's in your track sound pretty sick :W:

Im listening through headphones, but maybe have them a little louder and cut the frequencies in your bass's that are occupied by the snare.

Filthzilla is where he is because of how often he releases tracks.

Those were the days.

I also remember a just a few weeks ago, when he was trying to DJ with his decks not plugged in. He really has come a long way in such little time...

Agreed. this thread seems to have gone off on a tangent, but thanks for all the help!

All i can say is that KOAN Sound snares are simply the same snares that i seek pitched up a couple of semitones.

This is the closest i was able to come to these snares : Soundcloud

they seem pretty close, what do you guys think??

Not bad man, sounds pretty good. Have you tried using a transient shaper to get more attack out of it ? Also less decay/release on the snare will make it sound alot snappier. Just experiment though, you will eventually get some really solid snares.

I hate all big snares like this, im all for claps and rimshots with nice reverb, and natural sounding tight snare hits. none of this stuff that sounds like a fuck load of white noise.

you dont need to layer for the extra punch in the bro snares, you can even use any synth to make snares like that.
just make sure it has a lot of harmonics, clip the volume and EQ boost plenty with a couple of sharp peak EQ points in the 200hz zone and definitely in the 100hz area as well for a more deeper thump.
the koan sound snare is bit of a similar technique but layer with a breakbeat snare/a raw snare from a drumkit and compress+squash it loads (i like dynakiller for this) and use a tonne of drive and input db from any saturator plugin. also clipping and distorting helps (sounds cleaner when clipping imo). bounce and lower the volume level after + EQ notch out bad frequencies. it will sound spot on once u surgically get rid of the bad frequencies and it will be hard hitting as f*ck.
