OT: I don't actually.
What I do do is I visualize how the mixdown is done. Looking what's slightly panned and what's more in the distance.
High frequencies are obviously on top of my visual box.

With my more Ambient stuff, I set a scene in my head, and use that to visualize the mood/everything about how the song will sound. I go into those sort of productions with an image, not a sound in my head ;)
