isn't french toast sweeter than eggy bread? I used to have "eggy bread" with ketchup when i was younger and now I eat "french toast" made by my gf with icing sugar and fruit on it. Is that the difference? Am I a man now?

Yes, you're all growed up now. French toast does not go with ketchup!

I don't particularly care for the thick US ones either. They're ok occasionally but they're just too thick, doughy and dry. I reckon people like 'em more for the fact that they have to drench them with maple syrup to get ANY taste or to help it be wet enough to swallow, rather than the pancake themselves.
