last time i took them with four of my mates we ended up watching anchorman three times in a row on my massive comfy sofa with everyone randomly falling asleep and waking up confused every 3 minutes
Re: Ambien Amnesia
got a pack of zolpidem at home, didn't realise it was ambien, just thought they were sleeping tablets.pikeymobile wrote:its called zolpidem in this country (when I've had it anyway), much better than benzos for sleeping, but the memory loss is fucking insane even at low dosesDRTY wrote:the fuck is ambien

Re: Ambien Amnesia
My friend used to take Zolpidem all the time. This year she took it on the way to Glastonbury (no, me neither) and then lost my mate's ticket she was bringing with her. Oh how we laughed.
Re: Ambien Amnesia
Took a couple after a night of uppers and went pretty fucking psychotic and ended up in all manner of dangerous situations. Days later I discovered half the pack must have been ingested along the way. It usually does a decent job of KO'ing you, but christ, don't fuck about on it. Quite staggering how easy it's prescribed really
Re: Ambien Amnesia
Well that night I posted this--I basically passed out in front of the laptop, bedroom lights still on (never remember falling asleep) lurched awake middle of the night in a stupor, smacked the laptop (MacBook Pro) off the bed trying to close it, which resulted in a serious dent in the frame as it bounced between the wall and the bed on its way down to the floor... Whereupon I passed out again... Woke up with a terrible stomach ache...
Not good times.
Re: Ambien Amnesia
before i was diagnosed with narcolepsy my dumbass doctor prescribed me ambien
i took it once... fell asleep for 45 minutes, and woke up with vivid tracers
sat up in my recliner for the next 5 hours watching Alias marathon on TV spaced the fuck out
never again

Re: Ambien Amnesia
you know, i'm seriously beginning to think i have narco too, because although the ambien helps fall asleep, i wake up non-stop through the night. isn't that a sign of Narc? and i mean NON STOP, like sleep med's have no effect (unless i overdose like i did the other day). this level of insomnia is unbelievablepkay wrote:before i was diagnosed with narcolepsy my dumbass doctor prescribed me ambien

Re: Ambien Amnesia
yes waking up constantly can be a sign of narcolepsy. Basically the only way to confirm narcolepsy is an MSLT (Multiple sleep latency test) where they measure your sleep pattern and rem amount.
The tale tale signs of someone with narcolepsy is they quickly fall asleep, enter REM very quickly, and exit REM in a fraction of the time a normal person does. So you do not receive that good sleep (REM) that regenerates your mind and body. Thus, this leads to being sleepy during the daytime, which is more commonly a sign of having insomnia at night and being sleepy during the day as a result.
For me, initially i was sleepy all the time but could not sleep all the time. Small naps here and there and an absurd sleeping schedule. It took a year of doctor visits to even get an MSLT ordered, once they did I was diagnosed immediately.

Struggle to sleep and miss whole nights here and there or stay up till inappropriately late times but I'm actually tired a lot of the time especially during the day and fall asleep on buses and trains or other stupid places. My sleep pattern goes all weird too like being completely nocturnal but then suddenly switching to falling asleep early and waking up in the middle of the night and not going back to sleep. Also have random naps after uni sometimes.
Re: Ambien Amnesia
My neurologist believes narcolepsy is one of the most under-diagnosed diseases in the neurology world.
He also believes insomnia is commonly misdiagnosed
an MSLT is kind of a specialty test... it requires a night in the hospital
basically what they do is monitor your sleep at night with all these electrodes on you measuring your brainwaves, heartbeat, etc
then the next day they make you stay awake with the lights on in your room for 1 hour then turn off the lights and allow you to hop into bed and see if you can fall asleep. They do this 5 or 6 times. The average narcoleptic person will at least have the brainwaves begin to initiate a sleep state, where a normal person would be like "what the fuck its daytime i shouldnt be asleep" and will be wide awake.
If you honestly think you may be narcoleptic, its worth speaking to your doctor about. Get a consult to a neurologist, they'll likely have you keep a sleep journal for a few weeks and begin evaluation.

This is 100% me. I thank you so much because now I know what to ask for whenver it is I get health insurance in the future. I definitely need a sleep study.pkay wrote:yes waking up constantly can be a sign of narcolepsy. My sleep is never recouperative, and I'm tired all the time, but never able to sleep.
Re: Ambien Amnesia
ultimately there are a few ways you can help yourself
1) Nap: if you have narcolepsy you get REM in 6-10 minute bursts every time you fall asleep no matter how long you're asleep. Asleep for 2 hours 10 mins of rem. Asleep for 30 mins 10 mins of rem. Asleep for 8 hours 10 mins of rem. A 30 minute nap can be as recooperative to you as a full nights sleep.
2) Set alarms in the middle of the night/drink lots of water before bed: Given that same theory i just presented you, some narcoleptic folks set anywhere from 2- 10 alarms for themselves to wake themselves up so they can reset their REM cycle. I don't do this. I drink a big glass of water before i go to bed. That way 2-4 times during the night i have to wake up and take a piss. Thats an extra 2-4 REM Cycles for me.
3) Stimulants: I don't recommend doing this on your own. A doctor will sort you if you need it. But taking adderall or provigil are wonder drugs. They keep you awake during the day and force your body to exhaust itself and eventually demand REM. You stay up the full day via addys, your body will be so tired when it wears off it will hit a longer REM cycle.
