I strongly recommend saving for some technics. Nearly all of my mates who have bought cheaper decks have regretted it because after mixing on technics there really is no other substitute.scattybeanhead wrote:Hi guys, wondering if you could give me some advice with some purchasing as well. This is definitely a different end of the scale and ideally i'd like to get 1210s but this may be a realistic option for now.
The dude is offering:
2 X Vestax PDX-A1S turntables, both with Ortofon Concorde cartridges
and
1 X Vestax PMC-03A mixer
for £150
Now i realise that this is some pretty old kit but from what I've read it holds up pretty well and is in good condition.
Atm im using belt drive numarks and basically the most basic mixer you can buy (it doesn't even have an on/off switch) and so im looking to upgrade in any possible way, and basically just want to know if this is worth my money?
EDIT: and if that's no good then what is the Numark DMX06 mixer like if anyone has any experience with it?
Did you pay £500? If so i think you spent a bit too much, i'd have paid £400 - £450 max. I got my technic 1210 mk2s new from tottenham court roadmeanmrcustard wrote:Okay so I bought option 1!
Turns out the guy doesn't know how to type properly and it's 2 boxes *for* Vinyl he was selling, not 2 boxes of vinyl. Pretty scuffed up but perfectly working flight cases, much rather that than a bunch of records I'd probably have no use for.
Mixer's a bit of a state, but will do until I replace it, decks are in pretty much perfect condition! He also threw in a couple of Ortofon DJ's as well that he didn't mention before. The stylus on one of them is a bit knackered and needs replacing, but all in all, i'm well pleased!
I did this, i got some really old vestax pdx 2000s and they arent bad, but i soon upgraded to some 1210s and theyre so much nicer!MPathy wrote:I strongly recommend saving for some technics. I know this doesn't help you much, directly anyway, so sorry about that.

All that melts away when the lights are down and the bass is up.
Paid £500, yeah. To be honest, they were the cheapest I'd seen mk3s go for, considering they came with good carts and a stand etc.dubstepper wrote:Did you pay £500? Anyhow enjoy ya new decks mate.

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.
Afaik they still make 1210's, only not the MK5 or whatever it was.Gewze wrote:well seeing as 1210's are 600 plus each, and theyve stopped making them, what do you think the new 1210 standard decks is/going to be?

pansonic really shot themselves in the foot by making such a well-designed product that lasts forever and is easy to repair. there is really no need to buy 1200s new, in my opinion. I don't think I've ever even seen any other of the updated models (ie the mk5). and didn't they make a digital cdj version a few years ago?MPathy wrote:Gewze wrote:well seeing as 1210's are 600 plus each, and theyve stopped making them, what do you think the new 1210 standard decks is/going to be?
I cant see any other turntable replacing technics. They last for ever and even when the last one has been run into the ground in about 1483 years time everyone will be mixing on CDJ1,000,000 mk8s.
