im pretty sure ableton does the same thing, but if i wanted to open a FL project after moving all the samples, FL would shit itself.
This is because you haven't told fl to look in the new folder for samples. I have my desktop and dropbox folders added to fl so fl searches there for content

LOL yeah, man... just drag it back out of the trash. No worries.
unless you emptied already, which would just be a dumb move

nah dude I've somehow set it so that my trash automatically does a secure empty every time I put the an item in the trash, so the trash is perpetually empty. So it's not in the trash, a delete is undoable

I honestly cannot remember how I did that. But whenever I drag something to the trash, the trash starts bouncing and a warning comes up that says something like "are you sure you want to delete this file? This action cannot be undone!"
I never really worried about it until now, because it never was a problem. Until now.

I always have my pc set to permanently delete files, no trash what so ever.
If you're having problems deleting random files or samples, etc.
You really need to get to know your processes better.
If you`re deleting then why would you want to restore it?
Who accidentally deletes important files?
I get that Sonika did but seriously?
Either pay attention or face the consequences.

But at least when I tried. In FL is trying to find "snare1" , it will use the first file it finds named that. So if you have morethan one "snare1"s you might be out of luck.

normally, this doesn't happen for me. It has happened once, but I have put FL in such a position many times, so its not a regular issue for me.

Nah, it goes by folder. If you've got "snare1" in "big_fat_drumz" folder and then move all your samples, FL will look for x:\xxxx\xxxx\big_fat_drumz\snare1.wav
Just make sure your folder structure is cool, then its no problem moving files.

it asks where the files is now located and searches the path for all other lost files
don`t other daws do the same?
nope, in FL the missing samples come up in red then u have to find them 1 by 1

edit: since iv never done this in a while i think this is what happens in the older versions of FL only.

I WAS paying attention. I knew exactly what it was. I just didn't really consider it a problem at all until now.

so you chose to delete your samples?
and now you`re upset because they`re gone?
Yes, you clearly paid attention.

OH jeez..
I:/Production/Packs/
Keep that shit completely out of the way of your main hard drive.. You should partition yourself a little 50gb slot for production.

Yup! I learned my lesson the hard way, unfortunately...

Good thing is I backed up my hard drive about 2 weeks ago, so I didnt lose everything...
Definitely scared me into taking much much greater care in the future though
