This is getting quite frustrating, i mean Korn was funny because they're just arrogant uneducated morons.. but Carl Cox, whether you like him or not, is a legend in the music industry. Why does everybody expect a fucking pat on the back for being involved in dubstep from the start when more times than not they weren't. Also why have they found the need to mention it NOW, in 2012.. why weren't they saying this from the start.
If he, and every other tnuc trying to get some praise for something they had fuck all to do with, really was pushing this from the start.. why do they need to come out and mention it? The origins of dubstep are pretty well documented, if he was really that big of a part of it as he thinks... why isn't he mentioned anywhere?
Plastician said it perfectly: "Pretty sure I never saw Carl in Big Apple. You can name on your fingers and toes the people who opened the door for dubstep. You'd need a festival full of glove wearing squids to stand a chance of naming Carl Cox on fingers and toes."

It was an immense set.
I imagine he rocked it. Did he rock it? He usually just goes out there and rocks it?

" I don’t mind the now generation being seen as the pioneers, but there had to be a Carl Cox pushing the doors open for these guys."
What an ass. Quite a talented ass, but an ass nonetheless. Trying to remain relevant I suppose.

"That I took something that was so mundane – playing other people’s records, basically – and came through all the snobbery about DJing to turn it into a serious cottage industry for me and the world."
So modest.

I don't remember Carl Cox playing any Dubstep in the early days. Hardly that much of a claim to fame if a professional DJ/producer happened to play dubstep before 2005 though, wasn't a secret society- people were trying to push the music, playing a tune or two isn't a claim compared to running a dubstep night/label or producing the stuff.
Peel was on it for the early promotion outside the usual Grimey/Garage circles though.

Peel was playing some bits in 2003. By 2004 he was putting Mala and Distance in his best of the year lists.

i think anyone thats been around PR publicity people and agencies, can see this for what it is, just like the Korn thing. Its stinking badly of a PR job. Besides, 4x4 house has very little to do with garage, and those house people that say things like "everything starts with house / disco" are the same as the people that say " everything is hip hop ". context is everything.

so im guessing by 'playing dubstep before it was dubstep' he means hardcore
but seriously, ive always had respect for the man, i mean shit, anyone who can play 3+ decks on vinyl.
but this is just ridiculous to be claiming this shit.

John Peel should be an inspiration to us all -- the man brought so much talent to the limelight that otherwise might have unjustly gone unheard. Makes me feel like there's no excuse to be as lazy as I am.
This is one of the most amazing lists I've ever seen:
http://www.thepeelsessions.co.uk/bands.html
As a Yank, I first heard about Peel when seeing the various imported thin-case "Peel Sessions" CDs at the local record stores (nonexistent now) and wondering who the hell John Peel was. I bought them anyway. My favorite ones were for Joy Division, New Order and The Cure.

Man discovered so much amazing music. Mogwai's Peel Sessions are some of my most rinsed. He also showed love to Stars of the Lid - who plays ambient drone on Radio 1?! Only the Peel...
