Hm I'll have a look in a minute. Intrigued by the RE concept, do you think it'll take off? I heard there are already quite
a lot developers signed up (Korg etc..) but it's probably a lot harder to develop plugins for Reason than it is for
Live for example.

If you watch the keynote on rack extensions, it is noted that it only takes about 15 minutes to port an existing VST into Reason for use with rack extensions (not including the CV integration aspect).

Already been said but rewire Reason into your favorite DAW and get the best of both worlds. I have been a Reason user for years but have been wanting VST support so I have been rewiring v6 into Reaper recently and using Reaper as the VST host. Love the combo!

Actually you can do so quite easily...
I'm sorry but reason has NOTHING like fm8 and certainly nothing that can produce powerful sounds right out of the box like massive. Don't get me wrong, I love reason, but saying what it has is comparable to fm8 is beyond absurd...

I always have my sub lowest in the mix, but then I boost it up heaps after exporting for mastering. Gives a lot more headroom and means you don't squash anything or lose power in the sub

EDIT: what the fuck, wrong thread... I don't even know how this happened, I blame my iPhone

I don't know, it's personal taste. I like Logic way more and the lack of VST's in Reason bothered me way to much.

It all comes down with your personal preference mate. Check other DAW's out.
This.

I think the question is are you willing to take the time to learn a new DAW. It's not exactly and easy thing to do. I've thought about changing from FL several times, but after trying demos of different programs I realize just how much of a pain it's going to be. The only one I put considerable effort into was Reaper. After awhile I really started missing some of the features of FL so I decided to rewire FL into Reaper. At first I was like, "This is cool" and before I knew it I was just doing everything in FL and all reaper ended up being was a tracker.

what??? i can build a six operator fm synth in like 2 minutes in a combinator save it. and bring it up and produce powerful sounds with more flexibility then fm8.
with the graintable/wavetable/fm with malstrom and thor you can make all kinds of generic throaty or mechanical basses pretty much right out the box.
fm8 and massive are great synths but the are not that unique. the make sounds in similar ways to other synths out there and are not irraplacable.

Are you really trying to compare the fm capabilities of thor to that of fm8, or really to any additive synth?

If you had half an idea of what fm synthesis was then you could understand how wrong you are

Dude i've got to say that you're the one who's wrong here. Maybe you think your sounds are like those made in FM8 but in reality they are not. Sorry to break it to you.

true because i haven't actually heard them but theres a good chance i'm right. Link a clip where these so called sounds can be heard from just reason?

a nice growl would be just fine since that is what fm8 is most famous for

I can assure you that I know what additive synthesis is, and to compare thor to fm8 or sytrus or any other devoted additive synth is outlandish. Yes, thor is very versatile and is a synth I use all the time with great results, but it is NOT a devoted fm synth, and therefore does NOT stack up against fm8 in additive synthesis. I think it's you that's confused here...

Getting into a sound making pissing match is pointless because there's sounds I've made in fm8 and others that you will not replicate and there's sounds that you've made in thor that I won't be able to replicate either. Neither of us are pros at sound design. My only point is that Thor does NOT have the same additive capabilities as fm8.

It's pretty easily route multiple thors together to get an fm powerhouse
