Then you need to get on 64bit and run the extended memory version of FL - I have 4gig of ram and never max out but I used to when using a lot of stems.

Yeah, I've been holding off the 64bit thing because I'm a bit of a knuckle dragger... I, like wub apparently, really don't like upgrading any of my music stuff... I prefer the stability to wiz bang... but, yeah, if I'm thinking of building a hackintosh, and RElearning logic... maybe I should be taking the plunge, and building a 64bit system, and at least sticking to a daw that I know and LOOOOOVE. :)

But you're assuring me, I won't have any ram issues with a 64bit os, and flstudio extended memory?

Depends really though don't it?

Ive had 22 5minute stems in the same project and was just over 3/4ths ram.

Once I chopped it up and deleted the bits of silence and stuff that obviously went down dramatically - if you're using long pieces of audio (more then a minute or two) in vast quantities (20+) you'll need a good 6-8 gig ram - just my estimate from what ive used and using FL.

4 does me fine and I do use a fair amount of audio.

Yeah, I do end up with a lot of audio... Maybe I can just drop more ram in my current system, like 4 sticks of 4gb each, and just not worry about this shit. Honestly, it is like pouring water on fire. And once you've gone through this a few times, you kind of feel like you don't even want to build a fire if it's just going to be dashed with a bucket of water... cha'know?

Must say I keep coming back to FL studio... I tried out ableton lite for a lil and my brain did not click with it. I did like reaper, but Fl studio's midi and piano roll is sooo much better. can't get enough of it's step sequencer and all that either!

Anyway, is there a quicker way to chop up and do 'surgery' on audio files without having to constantly click on/off the slice button? Maybe a hotkey or do you guys use edison for that ish

edit: found the handy stretch button in the playlist for quick editing! :W:

C for Cut, P for Pen. Easy to remember, harder to reach on the keyboard.

You can ctrl click with the Cut tool to make selections and to delete and stuff, but you can't move chunks of clips like that. Downer. Fl's tools are very context dependent, but I wish there was better switching between cutting and drawing....

ahh I've been trying those hotkeys and they never worked and realized I had typing keyboard to piano keyboard enabled doh!

I have another question for you guys.

Does anyone have a nice tip on bouncing audio in FL? Whenever I am working on a tune with 10+ instances of different basslines, it takes years bouncing them all to audio, cutting out all the empty spaces and routing them all to mixer channels all over again.

Record into edison? You can send selected to sequencer on it.

Get a more powerful comp?

When bouncing, I just use edison on the particular channel. That way you can embed tempo information into the audio, and do what tweaks may be necessary. But def record into edison.

Not all of us are sleeping on a pile of 100 dollarbillzz. :)

So what you guys are suggesting, is that I record every single bassline on it's own, or all of them at the same time?

I've set up like 8 edisons to start on play, and loop record, and just captured everything... wasn't so bad. Just make sy]]]\]]
sure you're working with the right edison, as they do tend to stak up.

I have the feeling if you were more specific in what you would like to do, and what your current setup is right now, that more specific responsis would be forthcoming, that may, or may not, in the end, increase your productivity.

Copy + Paste. :6:

Nah but seriously, bouncing to audio where you can helps a lot.

What I am trying to get at, is that I want to bounce all my basslines n such to audio, as it, in the end of a big project, eats up my CPU. BUT, I am looking for a quick and easy way to do so. I want all my basslines bounced to audio individuely, so that it won't be a problem setting the levels n such when I get to the mixing stage. I hope that is clear enough, and thanks for the responses so far. :)

I have a preset in FPC with all my drums routed to where they need to be. This and hotkeys has increased my workspeed to a point that i'm happy with.

And that is what we are telling you bro, just put an edison at the end of each channel's fx chain, and record your basslines. Then drag and drop them into the playlist. Very very easy thing to do, and once you start seeing how useful edison is... well then all hell is going to break loose.

Oh, I thought you meant and Edison on the master channel only. :D
