I agree with your advice, wormcode. After waiting a week or so, if no one knows how much was in there/the bank/etc, then its justifiable to keep it.

call me an asshole, but i would keep it no matter the sum.
i guess that's partly due to my current financial situation (none), but still...
unless i actually saw the person drop it, then yeah, i'd give it back.
i mean, if i lost a large quantity of money, i wouldn't be mad at someone for keeping it, i would expect that. i would just be mad at the fact that i lost a large quantity of money.

i used to work in an off license when i was like 18/19 and this old woman who worked in one of them, found a wallet left by a customer with £600 in it
she waited two weeks for hm to return to the shop to give it him
he had forgotten he had lost it and didn't say thanks for it being returned to him
she shud have kept it

LA_Boxers - Yeah I did see that thread about the Japanese custom, and I have heard such things from my uncle who works over there. Partly what inspired me to ask in a poll.
Anyway, no one responded to the bulletin board ad thing in like a week. Oh well I guess...
They might not even know where it was lost.

...but then I realise I got 10,000 karma points already from saving so many insects that it wouldn't matter.

I found ten pounds in the exotic fruits aisle of tesco once and handed it in to the customer services desk where they took my name and number in case it wasn't collected. Got a phone call a month later to come pick the tenner up because no one had collected it.

it obviously belonged to the large foods store in which it was found. somebody prolly lost their job over it, and mighta had criminal investigation that would have concluded that it was lost and somebody found it.
but fuck a grocery store. they can handle that kind of blow.

It was in the parking lot actually, my guess was it fell out of someone's car which could also explain them not knowing where to look.
Anyway I didn't find it so it wasn't my decision on how to use it, but I know my folks put it to good use. I just asked to wait a couple of weeks just in case.
