If you want to run lots of VST's / soft-synth's then you want as much processing power as money can buy. I'd lean more towards getting a higher clock speed than more core's. Yes it's nice to have them if they run efficiently but as soon as one core gets maxed (can happen if your plugin's aren't optimised for multi-core use) then it's game over! :|

For running lots of audio then memory will be your best friend here.

Make sure to have a separate drive (or 2) for backup's and a dedicated sample drive (if you're into that sorta thing)

Thanks man, I will look for more clock speed rather than cores. That was something I didn't know about VSTs, thanks for that.

SOME pretty dope I5 LAPTOPS in the $400 -$500 range
