I don't agree with you there. Sorry, but I think that is just plain wrong. It is all about the sound and what samples/instruments you put in there; not the notes you write.
Well, not sure if you read me right, but I was saying that its not just down to production technique.
And if you don’t think its also down to how he composes tunes, then any monkey with the XFR Deadmau5 sound kit and a side-chain compressor should be making tunes on par with him!?
he just got dep-OWNED :6:

Been saying it forever, but....

IN PRODUCTION, IT'S DIFFICULT TO TELL WHERE COMPOSITION ENDS AND PRODUCTION BEGINS. For example, its no coincidence that some of the best sound designers are also some of the best composers in EDM. Why is that? Because a good sound designer creates sounds around their composition.

I think the reason is that people don't realize that music also has texture. Music is not putting only the notes in the right place/time, is putting the notes in the right/place/time/INSTRUMENT.

I believe if you gave the guitar music sheets to the piano player and the piano sheets to the guitar player, music would sound like sh*t ;)

There's also the opposite where people spend tons of hours on sound design and then just make a basic pattern of C C D# A# every 1/4 note.

yeah mixing and professional mastering. That and he has probably a lot more experienced (dont mean that to sound rude haha im not trying to put you down im including myself in their to). just produce and mix your tunes the best you can and eventually things will start clicking in your head. Also dont produce with all your volumes turned up. turn volumes down and speakeers up. Try to listen to your tracks on several different systems. Maybe one with good bass putout, one in the middle like decent pc speakers with a subwoofer. and on ones with not so much such as regular pc speakers, or regular headphones(not production phones) such as on an ipod or something.

Doing this will slap you in the face with what you now KNOW you need to work on. The reason being is that different sound systems will more or less "focus" or "bring out" different frequencies in your tune so you are able to hear them better and recognize things you like or dislike thus being able to work on your production/mixing strengths and weaknesses and improve :4:
Dont get mad at the ignorant, educate them.

They are. Listen to his latest track my friend. Mediocre 4x4 shite.

It may be mixed correctly but it really is formulaic bullshit, in fact just to prove my point- the track is released on ULTRA as a current electro track, however it was made over 10 years ago. Deadmau5, a true genius and master TROLL of electronic music since BSOD.

hmm thing is iv spent plenty time sound designing and i feel im at a decent level with that, same with mixing down.. yet i get writers block a lot regardless of producing for 8 years since melodies are my weakness. a lot of songs i hear that i love can lack plenty in sound design level or even with the mix down.. but id still enjoy those songs with a good or catchy melody.
for example where is the quality and level of good samples in Chiptunes? a lot of them sound amazing IMO and they all only rely on melodies with simple saw/squarewaves WITH distorted quality

How does deadmau5 make most of his snares in his new album? Like the one from "A moment to myself"?

All the information you need to "make snares" has been relentlessly answered in all formats: internet forums, youtube videos, books, and even instructional tapes.

I'll give you the real answer though - he has more experience producing than you probably have being alive, and a studio that costs more than your entire families net worth. And maybe even then just used a vengeance snare.
