Maybe you are just a perfectionist.

Honestly, I'm still working on my first batch of songs and I genuinely love them and think they're bringing something new to the table. I actually can't believe so many people thought their music was that bad for that long. I mean, if this is the first thing youre making as a musician i could kinda understand-and maybe the fact that I've been writing/producing in other genres for years gives me a bias-but I dont think any artist should work on material they truly dont love and believe in. Even when I was writing crappy metal songs when I was 13 I loved every second of every song regardless of how obviously atrocious they were to everyone else. My advice to is to pour yourself into every track you make and not settle until you have a piece of work youre 100% proud of and want to show off. Your music will only suck as long as you let it.

on the other hand your music will continue to suck if you're too ignorant to realize it sucks. (not saying your music sucks just speaking generally)

Yeah I mean that was 7 years ago haha. What I'm trying to say is that imo it's a waste of time to finish a song that you consciously don't believe is both great and done to the best of your abilities. It seems like a lot of people are saying "yeah man, your music's gonna suck for a long time, just keep finishing stuff and eventually in 5 or so years you'll start to write with some quality". It's straight bullshit. You'll develop as fast as you push yourself to. If you want to produce world-class songs in 6 months then put in the work to make it happen. It's an extremely voluntary process and skill set you have to learn like anything else.

it also help to just crank out tunes and learn from feedback, bit more of a direct approach if you ask me

It might be that way at first, but just keep making stuff and eventually you'll get better, to the point that you actually think your stuff is good.
I'm also a perfectionist, but if you work really hard, sometimes your creation just shines even to yourself.
One sign of you making a good tune is if you can listen to it casually, as if it was someone else's work.
Another reason why you may be thinking that was is because you're comparing it with high-end mastered tracks, but in the long-run, this could be overcome and you could make your tracks just as good.
Took me 3-4 years just to have a commercial sounding mix/master and started with just a 1.6ghz Sempron with a SB card. I still learn new things everyday, and if you have the will to learn, you'll always get better.

a few tips to getting thicker sounds. layer different frequency contents, just doubling to a higher octave could do this. slight delays on wide side like 15ms or so, if you are using a synth that has a voices feature, turn them up and detune the voices. try out tyrell's n6 v2. i got it a few days ago and thought all my sounds sucked and lacked thickness till i got this synth, and ive just been getting some huge basses lately. its free
