Unless u are very careful layering drums will
most likely rob them of punch, and comps w slow attack, low threshold and hefty ratio can INCREASE dynamic range. Audio and it's tools are just so weird! Woohoo!

You mean because with layering comes potential phasing and clashing of frequencies?nowaysj wrote:Unless u are very careful layering drums will

Maybe I should focus on compression and practicing getting better at that first!?

Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you shouldn't be looking at your waveform. Look at your waveform all you want. It's not there to distract us. It's there to help us. Be wary of buying into purist dogma from people with high post counts.
Re: This is going to sound ridiculous...
Ah whatever works. Working with decent samples right off the bat would remove the need to layer and compress (individual) sounds. As a start though, if you want punchy drums simplify their design, turn them up and everything else down... Haha, sometimes exercising restraint is the hardest thing to do.
I can't listen tO ur track but someone said they were quiet and u seem to be looking for pinch, so I'm just saying.

Great stuff, thanks Nowaysj and Joshisrad. I'm actively on the lookout for some decent drum and fx samples. Is anything else about from the Vengeance packs worth getting? I tried Vengeance for a while and few a few good ones, but didn't think they were all top quality?!
And yes, I'll try turn everything else down!

Re: This is going to sound ridiculous...
his drums are more compressed. and his sub bass is side-chained and a bit quieter. that's the difference in waveforms.
Re: This is going to sound ridiculous...
Do you want to elaborate on what is, at least for me, quite an ambiguous reply!? And bassinine, thanks for your comments

Re: This is going to sound ridiculous...
tunes with wavefroms like yours are normally decent because it means they flow- its generally not gonna be a club banger with drops and whatnot
If its like a brick brick- then youve got a problem, as it means theres no respite from the bass or anything generally. I tend to avoid listening to songs with waveforms like that...
