Hellbanning seems like a waste of bandwidth when you can just ban the dude normally.

I think it's to let them think they're still posting, trolling and annoying other people, when in reality they're in their own limbo universe. If they're really stupid, they might never cotton on. Eventually though, they might just think people are ignoring them and just go away. Of course, the intelligent, vindictive ones will just realise fairly quickly and start up new accounts with a vengeance.

Reminds me of the time a mate of mine got on another mate's Facebook account and changed his privacy settings so no one could see his statuses. He didn't catch on until after about 2 months of getting absolutely no attention on Facebook :lol:
