Thanks for all the posts guys, I went back to the project and turns out the volume was in the red as in my volume was at maximum the whole time. I cut all the tracks' volumes down to normalize them, messed with the limiter and eq like many have suggested here, and then added a sub-bass. It worked flawlessly; the mud was gone, thank you all.

I'm glad that you've sorted out your mud issue, but I definitely wouldn't advice messing around with dynamics processors (limiters, compressors etc.) until you know what you're doing.

Although the rule to live by is what sounds good is good, you can unknowingly suck the life out of your mix by not exercising the due caution when using your limiter.

I'm not saying don't experiment, but do so with a rough idea of what everything does, and regularly making A/B comparisons to make sure you're improving the sound, esp. in the context of the whole mix.

(p.s. you might know what you're doing, I don't know, this is just general advice)

"Everyone" who was producing dubstep when Skrillex's name was Sonny Moore is not the same "everyone" as the "everyone" who pirates Ableton and Massive before they really even know how to spell DAW, because they think they'll be able to plop down on their couch with a laptop and some ear buds and make bass.

Incidentally I have lots of respect for Skrillex, though I don't consider myself much of a fan, so there's no hate for him, only for the multitudes of impersonators. Do you read these forums?

Authenticity and coolness are two things I don't care to pursue. My hate for Massive stems from one fact: in its popularity, particularly for people who have not been producing for long or at all, it dramatically overshadows some very powerful synths which are to be found native to FL Studio. It seems that there is a general assumption that it's not possible to make interesting electronic music (whether "dubstep" or not, whether "Skrillex" or not) without it, which is false.

Incidentally it doesn't sound like the TS is guilty of any of the above, but I played the odds and, beyond all probability, lost.

I don't know why others hate on Massive, but I'm glad to hear that they do.

Jas0n sounds awesome, Bach is actually one of my favorite composers, but I haven't heard that piece before. Anyways, let me know how it turn out!
