yeah, music + friends + herb will always be there.
And for those that don't always have those things, help always arrives so long as it is asked for ,and asked to the right people.
Society has grown too accustomed to not asking for help from others because everyone is usually already too caught up in their own thing. instead of seeking comfort in company ,it all gets internalized and mis-diagnosed and and everything just crumbles inwards from there.
helping others = helping ourselves .basic but i find it to be true

i have some friends with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders and a relative with PTSD/personality disorder... i really kinda hate this distinction between issues "normal" people have and "psychos".. oh well
in my experience, antidepressants are never really as big a blight on your ability to do shit as depression is (unless it makes your depression worse which is always a laugh). i managed to create stuff during my last deep depression, most of it revolving around how depressed i was. reading it back now it wasn't as reasonable as i thought it was. it was just the ramblings of a suicidal person. on meds i managed to keep a job for the longest i've ever kept it. i managed to eat three meals a day. i managed to go through day to day life without overdosing or whatever. i managed to start writing and reading properly. that's a better base for "creating" than fucking lying in bed for days at a time blogging your morbid nonsense
might as well try the fuckers if you're desperate, SSRIs are seriously overhyped though. they have awful side effects and limited therapeutic effects. i just started to get mad if people tried to put me on them cos they're bullshit. for that reason if you feel shit but your ability to function isn't really compromised, i would think twice about going on them. go for fish oils, sunlight, exercise, reducing your commitments if appropriate, therapy, keeping in touch with your friends, all that shit.
the only thing about psych meds is that you know what is causing these sort of intolerable strangenesses in your mind and whilst not necessarily the torture of depression they are intolerable in their own special way. mine don't really do that anymore but im not too sure what they ARE doing so hey. the only problem i have now is that i'm totally dependent on meds. like if i ran out and couldn't get any it would be hell for everyone involved. i don't like that and for that reason i want to stop taking them. but i can't. oh well

Not necessarily, it all depends on the individual and in what state of mind they're in at the time.
Weed while I think is a fantastic drug and can really ease the mind, if I'm really down it will make me feel worse.
MDMA really moved me forward in life, enabled me to go out and be relaxed enough to meet new people - which in turn has lead me to having a fantastic group of friends, which has lead me to being the happiest in years. There's no denying the comedowns are hell though.
I can't really comment on ket as I've only tried it once, and that led me to being in a k-hole at my first Bangface.
I could go on actually. Like I said it's all an individual thing and what state of mind you're in at the time. Just be careful people, all about moderation.

absolutely, and if you're currently depressed i wouldn't recommend you do any drugs at all.... but if you know you have an illness i really think that staying away from drugs inc. alcohol is the best thing. i had some good times with MDMA but ultimately along with antidepressants it kindled my bipolar. i had uneventful comedowns and no post-MD depression, but when my mania / depression did come back it came back faster and harder. same story with alcohol. i'm pretty sure my brain "learnt" how to be manic from MDMA. it doesn't really matter how much i do or how often it can only ever be a bad thing in the medium-long term. still tempted sometimes though.
ket seems to have an antidepressant effect, and weed is one of the only drugs to be linked with lower incidence of depression in users which is why i mentioned those two. alcohol and other depressants (like benzos) and stimulants are pretty much just bad ideas for brains vulnerable to mood disorders

Why in the world would this be of any help? Why has the medical community never mentioned anything like this? These are VERY rhetorical questions, btw...

WOW!!! I must admit, this thread turned out so much better than I thought it would. I was expecting a load of snide, sarcastic assholism which on the old inter-webz is pretty much watch get. I guess tho subject hits home to many people and it brings out the good and humane in people when they can relate. That really makes me happy to know that we share a few common bonds in music and emotion. I'm kinda new here so I figured I'd get shat on, but you guys are pretty awesome.
I agree w/ so much of whats been said here and much of it is quite helpful. I know that I eat straight garbage everyday and sometimes do not feel compelled to eat anything so I think a change in diet could really help. Also, EXCERSIZE can really get endorphins flowing. I just need to snap outta this shit and force myself to be active (in many ways) until I can see and feel the positive effects of it. I have such a problem finishing shit. My life (family) situation doesn't help the matter either. I definitely need a change in that area. To put it briefly w/o getting into too much detail, my GF is a jealous, naive, psycho who's antics basically suck the fucking life outta me. I'm a super social person but she makes my life hell if I talk to people. Not even just girls but people in general. Her jealousy is just insane. And the funny part is that she's cheated on me numerous times and I've NEVER once cheated on her. Anyway, I'm sorta stuck in my current living situation because of finances and some other bullshit. So there needs to be a change here too.
I think I'm gonna chill on taking meds and try to do it naturally. I mean, the thoughts are there and at times un-bearable but I don't think I have the balls to actually act on the shit. Plus, I think that Im fed up to the point where I can will m,myself to act on these positive things to create a change.

Honestly there is some truth to this in practice. If I blow a load early in the day it seems like half my energy comes out w/ it!! That sexual energy and tension I think is a big part of creativity and motivation. These are things I think about when my girl wants to roll over in the morning and do the deed dirtily!! : ) or if Iget the urge to rub one out in the middle of the day. I try to save that shit up like magical music making juice. (Im totally serious.)

there's definitely some life changes you can make there!
at the same time if you're feeling the strain of trying to make changes and shit, don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help whether it's from doctors or friends or anything. one of the worst parts of depression is how it cuts you off from seeking help cos of self-esteem issues, negativity or just being scared or hard on yourself. plus if you're making the changes and things still aren't getting better, again, reach out
i need to do exercise too, badly. i have this rule where i leave the house every day, even if it's just for a walk (that sounds soooo lame), but i haven't recently because i got a cold ":(" but i definitely feel distinctly more shit already.
i hate how terrified i am of my mood getting off kilter, if i feel sad for a bit or whatever i'll start getting scared and worried and shit. it's bad. but i guess better than being sort of resigned to it and going out and trashing my body/ getting into dangerous situations because i don't care

Oh god, the drugs!! I'm 28 and I've basically spent the time since I was about 14 up until around 2 hearts ago in various phases of different drug abuse and addictions. Some were brief experimental things and others were full on addiction. I realize all this definitely had a hand in fucking m,y head up as bad as it is now. But thats the damage of my past.
I definitely went through a ridiculous MDMA phase, did way too much for way too long and the effects were probably devastating. Same w/ K and L. I was a "raver" for years and I indulged accordingly. Then I went through a long drawn out phase of opiates and benzo's which Ive only recently overcame,(well about 2 years ago.)
Now that I think of it this all started as a result of being put on ADerall as a kid for ADHD. I'm talking like 7th grade snorting speed off the bathroom sink and selling it to classmates. Ya, the second we realized we were being prescribed amphetamines IT WAS ON. So perhaps, listening to the medical community and letting them drug me is probably the worst idea.
But when I was on Citalopram a few years ago I remember it being a great point in my life. Very social, I held a job longer than i EVER have and I don't remember it affecting me too much creatively so..........................Idk. Ima start excersizing and stop eating BK and pizza 3x a day and see what happens.
