also, hardstyle is shit.

Some hardstyle/hard trance is genuinely interesting, good production, variation etc etc. But like so many genres, it's easy to get lazy and the big name producers who put out lazy tracks inspire the next generation of producers to make equally lazy track, so the prophecy becomes self fulfiling.

Oh wise ninjas, a few days ago I was waiting for my friend to pick me up when I saw two really cute girls and decided to approach them cuz I was bored. We started talking about music. As I expected, they liked Lady Gaga, David Guetta etc. I said I like dubstep, dnb & hardstyle to which one responded "...the fuck is dubstep? I heard about it but I never got the chance to actually hear the music". So I took my phone & played them a few tracks from DMZ and, I think, one from Scuba and they were like "How can you listen to this, it's so boring". Now this part I don't get: in the 21st century everyone is blabbering about being open minded and shit but it seems that when people dont understand something they immediately think that it sucks.
So why should I make progressive, deep tunes when no one is actually gonna take the time to listen to it?
Oh yeah, finally I played them a skrillex song that they liked it and one of the girls asked "Are those sounds made by a guitar?" (-_- yes, thats how stupid they are). I would love to hear about any interesting reactions to dubstep that you've recieved from other people. Anyway, in these sort of moments, I loose motivation to make music because I can see how many people listen to just the surface of the music. No one digs deeper. Even if you guys dont have anything to say, I just wanted to share this with the dubstep community, to let you know that people like this exist & so that we know what we are dealing with. This is a fucked up world...right?

mate, you've gotta appreciate that a lot of people on here have been handling negative reactions to ds for a long time
and have been hearing this sort of rant for 4, 6, 8 years
so they're gunna be kinda cynical or dismissive of a noob experiencing it
but the frustration that isolated steppas have long felt seems to have strengthened the ties between us
(see San Fran Mala & System threads)

As for it affecting your motivation to produce, well maybe what you're making is shit anyway, so that's why the Baron makes this reasonable request:
